What the club says: Situated just half an hour south west of Glasgow on the famous golfing Ayrshire coast. A stretch of land unequalled anywhere in the world for prime golfing terrain. The first Open Championship was held at Prestwick in 1860 and the last in 1925 - thereafter the crowds were too large.

Birthplace of The Open
One of the most historical clubs. Hosted the first Open and several more, the last in 1925. Hard course with several blind shots, treacherous greens, and Scottish bunkers.Reviewer Rating

Quirky, fun, great golf
Played in the Summer of 2021 and a course I'd been looking forward to play and was not disappointed. The course is very quirky with lots of history within the original 12 holes/landspace. Those 12 holes are probably the best with the extras not quite up to the rest. There are some definite standout holes and some quirky, almost bizarre, holes that you are unlikely to have played before. As you would expect with links golf the conditions can play a factor and the tees, fairways and greens were superb. Great challenge although not too tough and a real joy to play. This should be a muyst play for every golfer.

Quirky could be an understatement!
With so much history this should be a must play for every golfer! The course starts off with 5 holes which were part of the original landscape and you will probably find you have never played holes quite likes these. You then play a stretch of newer holes which provide variety and a nice test of golf. You then head back to the original land which brings you closer to the coast line and once again several extremely quirky holes. This course is exceptional but quite unique and given the Open heritage is a must visit for every golfer. The 17th is quite extraordinary with the 'alps' blocking your route to the green and hiding the 'sahara' bunker which has to be seen to be believed. The 18th is a lovely finishing hole to live you finishing your round on a high with memories made to last forever. Would highly recommend, would head back in a flash and already planning a return with a friend who would absolutely love everything about this!Reviewer Rating

Amazing Experience.
A must play for all golf purists. Not the easiest of courses to navigate around - would recommend the use of a caddy to add to the experience.
So much history around this place.
Condition is great - as raw as it needs to be. Don't want it manicured to the N'th degree.
The 12 holes where the original layout was are so much fun, the other 6 are definitely there to test you as the all play long and covered in bunkers.
Greens are great too. Very hard to read.
