What the club says: First opened in 1961, Dalmilling is set between Ayr’s famous Racecourse and the A77, this is, as they say, honest and open parkland that plays away from the clubhouse and dips into a rolling valley.
The river Ayr borders the southern end of the course, with some of its tributary burns adding interest to the early holes, especially the sixth, a 135 yard par three that is virtually surrounded by water. Playing here you are aware that you are in the heart of "Burns Country", where the famous poet Robert Burns was born and raised.

Great Course
Top class course and superb value. For some reason it is ignored by golfers who play the 3 Troon courses which is their mistake. Always a great welcome and people who keep the course in good condition should be praised.Reviewer Rating

Fair, but would be MUCH better with a little attention.
The main issue was the condition of the greens, they were in fairly poor shape. There was no problem with the course layout overall, in fact it is pretty good, challenging enough for non-expert players, but not too punishing.......I only lost one ball into the burn at the 6th.A slightly bizarre thing was the placement of the ladies tees in some holes, especially the 16th......mens par 4 240 yds, ladies par 4 269 yds !! Yes I know the stroke index for ladies is lower, but really? However it has too be said when playing against a better woman, it gives them a chance to feel a poor man's angst when looking at the back of the head of your opponent 30 yds in front.

A course in progress
Though short, this course is a challenge. The greens are small and hard to hold at times. The outstanding hole is the dogleg 9th which asks for strategic thinking. The course was being prepared for the South Ayrshire Seniors, and greens had been treated; fairways shaped, but bunkers were in poor condition. New tees were being built at the 2nd hole and this should improve the challenge. The back 9 is the tougher half of the layout, with some longer shots required. I enjoyed the experience here in this gently rolling parkland course.Reviewer Rating
