Four Week Chipping Programme: Week 2 - Improving Strike

By: Phillip Akers | Fri 07 Jul 2017 | Comments ()

So many amateur golfers lose large amounts of shots around the green purely because of inconsistent ball striking leading to bad results. Phil Akers, a senior teaching professional at the Belfry believes that the best way to improve this striking is through a simple tip in your initial set up to the ball.

Phil believes that many amateur golfers initially set up to the ball with the shaft of the club leaning forward too much, causing the leading edge to dig into the ground, leading to the fat chip landing a few feet in front of you, or even the thinned chip shot straight passed the pin and sometimes even the green.

By having the shaft slightly more neutral and utilising the bounce on the bottom of the club, the ball is more likely to come out softer and with a better strike a lot more consistency.
