What the club says: Opened in 1926, this undulating woodland course can punish the wayward shot. This course can either leave you happy and contented or frustrated to the point of storing your clubs. Finding the fairway is an absolute must as there are many meandering streams around the course. The 1st is one of the holes that requires great care. On an elevated tee the brave can attempt to clear the stream with a wood leaving a small chip onto the green. For most you have to judge the wind and slope before you swing anything from a 5 to a 9 iron. The 12th hole rewards the bold with a good birdie or eagle opportunity - but beware - a stray drive out of bounds and you'll be lucky to avoid dropping a shot.

Rugged course, challenging and cheap

Like to play this one occasionally because it's cheap and challenging. Not always in the best of condition, very rugged but no complaints. Some of the greens were in good condition but unfortunately some have been vandalised. Not the golf course management fault of course, so please support CocksMoor Woods.

I like to play different courses around Birmingham and have not played at Cocksmore for a few years now. It was always deemed to be the best municiple course around. Well back then maybe. What a disgrace the worse course I have played in years and we are the height of the summer. The course is like a farmers field, greens awful, bunkers well - grass and weeds growing and rock hard. Rough so overgrown they won't get a mower through it and don't look for your ball! What are the owners and groundsmen doing!! NO PRIDE. They should be letting you play for nothing not charge you. Shame really it was always so good and the clubhouse staff so friendly. The day I played I did not see any groundsmen and it was midweek. I will not be returning for a long time. I scored 1 out of 10 for most because I could not score 0

Terrible course

Absolutly shocking course, not maintained at all, fairways are like 1st cut of rough, rough has bot veen cut at all its up to your shins so if you have missed the so called fairway its a lost ball, grass on greens are way to long so putts have to be whacked, grass is way to long on tees, and bunkers might aswell be concrete as bot maintained at all there either rock hard or there is grass and moss growing in alot of them, And they have the verve to charge £25 for a round, you can get cheaper at a well kept private course

Forest Golf

Green keepers should be fired. It’s not a golf course but a forest with a golf course on it. Cut the grass back.

Used to be a great course

Not maintained how it used to be. It might due to the heavy rain we had through the winter but if the condition stays like that I won't be playing there again anytime soon...!!!

Been playing here since 1973. Was great then. With all the changes has gone down ever since. Apparently in the 60s three holes were over a road. Anyone know where they managed to put in 3 new holes ?

Cocks moors woods

Returned to play a game of golf today 8th July after weeks of neglect of the course in the past I actually enjoyed today's game. The course has now finally been sorted out. The fairways are short as well as the rough so you don't lose any balls on the fairway anymore. I will definitely return to play again in the near future.

A good test of golf at a good price. Fairways cut and continuing works creating better conditions. Greens need tlc but improvements are being made. Pro shop staff very helpful. Will return.

A good challenging course which, sadly, is now in poor condition. The greens are good but the fairways badly need cutting and if your ball rolls 6" off the fairway, don't bother looking for it as the grass is so long.

Don’t bother, go to the range instead

Course conditions are always poor, or rather, they have been everytime I’ve ever played there.
Last time being yesterday where the fairway was indistinguishable from the rough - I lost a ball on the fairway!!
Greens are like a weeks worth of stubble, play every putt as a straight putt.
It’s almost like a park that the park ranger has a passing interest in golf, as opposed to an actual golf course.
But I guess that’s why they charge £14/15 because anything more than that would be armed robbery.

Played 15May 2023 course in appalling condition. Greens OK, Fairways and Tees looked like they hadn’t been cut in weeks. The fact that I lost a ball in the fairway says it all. First cut of rough was six inches deep, rough looked like a jungle. I played the first nine in 41 so didn’t play badly but still lost 4 balls. Course badly neglected, how they can charge what they do for this mess is beyond me.

Terrible! Apart from the greens, the course looked like it hadn't been maintained for months! Tees, Fairways, Bunkers and Rough were nearly unplayable! Being able to lose a ball on the Fairway says all you need to know! Weeds everywhere and the odd topless random guy, hitting balls towards you and actually asking you if you were playing the right ball topped it off.
Others on the course also complaining about the same issues

Dry fairways...

Good evening to play. Fairways are in good condition. Grass on some greens is a bit long. Got extra length on drives because of the dry fairways.
