Wilson Staff D200 family of drivers, fairways and irons

By: Golf Shake | Tue 17 Feb 2015

Wilson Staff has announced the launch of it's new D200 family of clubs which will feature The Right Light™ technology which was introduced successfully last year. Wilson's Right Light technology will be coupled with ground-breaking club head innovations to create a SuperLight™ range of advanced distance clubs for the 2015 season.

The new Wilson Staff D200 family of clubs – incorporating a brand new driver, fairway woods, hybrids and irons with an original Speed Sole concept – are even lighter than the popular D100 range, but offer a powerful, balanced, solid feel Wilson golf D200 Driverand sound experience thanks to precise positioning of weight in each club.

“Product testing has shown that golfers of all standards can benefit from lighter clubs, as they are easier to swing faster with the same effort to achieve increased club head and ball speeds that lead to greater distance,” said Michael Vrska, Global Director of Innovation at Wilson Golf.

“But, it’s not just about being lightweight, because the challenge is optimising the limited mass available for distribution within the head, shaft and grip to achieve the best performance for each club,” he added.

The SuperLight™ D200 Driver [9°, 10.5°* & 13° lofts] is one of the lightest and fastest adjustable drivers on the market. It weighs just 268 grams – comprising of a 189g head, a 44g UST Elements Chrome shaft and a 25g Golf Pride Tour 25 grip – and enables golfers to effortlessly generate extra club head speed for greater distance off the tee.

A key feature of the new driver which comes in 9°, 10.5°* & 13° lofts  is a 6-way adjustable hosel with three different loft settings and three draw settings in comparable loft to customise the launch angle and a left-to-right ball flight.

New Reactive Face Technology expands the size of the face to provide more forgiveness on heel and toe impacts and enhances Moment of Inertia (MOI), while a reduction in thickness around the lower half of the face extends ball velocity on any mishit shots.

The new D200 Fairway Woods [3 (15°)*, 5 (18°)* & 7 (21°)] have a distinctive rounded sole design that provides versatility in all playing conditions. Maximum distance from the tee, fairway or rough can be achieved thanks to the addition of a premium quality Carpenter Custom 455 maraging stainless steel face insert. This creates a thin, hot Characteristic Time (CT) face for higher ball speeds and longer distances; while the overall increase in the size of the face, especially in the heel and toe areas, promotes forgiveness and improved ball speeds on off-centre hits. The SuperLight™ technology incorporates a light 49g UST Elements Chrome shaft and a 25g Golf Pride Tour 25 grip for faster ball speed.

The D200 Hybrids [2 (17°), 3 (19°)*, 4 (21°)* & 5 (23°)*}] also feature the Carpenter Custom 455 maraging steel face Wilson Golf D200 Ironinsert. The larger volume on stronger-lofted heads provides forgiveness on longer shots, while more face curvature translates to flatter faces on weaker-lofted heads for optimal gear effect and accuracy. Multiple stock options perfectly distance-gap the set through custom fitting and a 54g UST Elements Chrome shaft and 25g Golf Pride Tour 25 grip combine to increase club head speed and distance.

Featuring an exclusive Speed Sole Technology™ innovation, a thin face-to-sole transition on the new D200 Irons creates a driver-like 234 CT and an average ball speed increase of more than 2 mph compared with the D100 models. “The result is Wilson Staff’s biggest advancement in distance-related technology yet,” said Vrska.

Weight saved from the face and sole is redistributed to the heel and toe pods for a larger sweet spot and increased MOI (up 5% on the D100 irons).  The choice of a 59g UST Elements Chrome graphite shaft or an 85g True Temper SL85 steel shaft allow golfers to accelerate club head speed and gain maximum distance. The grips are Wilson Staff Tour Traction.
“The new D200 clubs embody The Right Light™ technology with loft settings and weights distributed to optimise their trajectory and length from tee to green,” said Doug Wright, Business Director of Wilson Golf in EMEA. “They form a key part of the Wilson Staff Feel, Control & Distance (F-C-D) family of irons that matches club benefits with individual playing styles for the most consistent scoring associated with the brand.”

State-of-the-art UST Mamiya Elements Chrome shafts are available in A-, R- and S- flexes for the new Wilson Staff D200 family of woods, hybrids and irons, which will be available from January 2015 at the following recommended price points: D200 driver (£199), D200 Fairway Woods (£129), D200 Hybrids (£119) and D200 irons (steel £349 & graphite £429).
