Disability Golf's Premier Matchplay Event to Visit Spain in 2026
The Cairns Cup is considered to be the premier matchplay event in disability golf, featuring elite golfers with disabilities competing in a contest between Teams USA and Europe.
It has now been confirmed that the 2026 edition will take place at the prestigious San Roque Golf Club in Spain from the 11th to 18th of July 2026.
This highly competitive and inspiring event open to both men and women showcases the skill and determination of some of the best golfers with disabilities from USA and Europe. With the USA dominating the last two editions, Team Europe will be determined to reclaim the title on home soil.
Kris Aves, who Golfshake Ambassador Andy Picken played with back in 2022, has been named playing captain for Team Europe.
San Roque Golf Club is one of Europe’s premier golfing destinations, located in the beautiful Andalusian region of southern Spain, near Sotogrande. Established in 1990, the club has earned an outstanding reputation for its exceptional facilities, picturesque setting, and championship-calibre courses.
It's known for its championship course designed by Dave Thomas and updated by Seve Ballesteros, with its challenging layout, stunning scenery and immaculate fairways impressing those who play there.
Nestled at the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja mountains, the club offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean coastline and Gibraltar, while San Roque has hosted several high-profile tournaments, including European Tour Qualifying Schools and the Spanish Open.
It has a luxurious clubhouse with fine dining, bars, and a pro shop. It also boasts significant practice facilities, including a driving range, short-game area, and putting greens.
Hosting the Cairns Cup 2026 solidifies San Roque’s reputation as a top venue for global golfing events. Its state-of-the-art facilities and picturesque environment will create a memorable experience for both players and spectators and we look forward to seeing how it all plays out next year.
