Golf ambassador Alex Belt De Vere Golf ambassador and rising star Alex Belt, claimed his maiden title on the 888poker.com PGA EuroPro Tour, after a final-round 70 at Collingtree Park in Northamptonshire propelled the Yorkshireman to a one stroke victory over George Woolgar and Simon Lilly.

The 27 year-old, based out of De Vere Oulton Hall in Leeds, finished on an 11-under par winning total for the three round event. Belt utilises the facilities at De Vere Golf resorts, as he competes on the EuroPro Tour in a bid to claim one of the five Challenge Tour cards available at the end of the season. Victory moves Belt into fourth position in the standings with just 11 events remaining on the 2013 schedule.

“It feels like a big weight has been lifted. I haven’t been playing that well over the last few weeks, so I decided to have a week off where I didn’t hit a single golf ball. I tried to change my approach a little bit and block out thoughts of how I have been playing. Hopefully I can continue improving,” noted Belt. “I’m lucky in the sense that wherever I am playing in the country, De Vere usually has somewhere for me to stay and play. It’s hugely convenient and obviously helps me out financially. Plus, with the likes of Oulton Hall, Slaley Hall, The Carrick and The Belfry, I can take advantage of some of the best golf resorts in the UK.”

Belt is just one of several athletes currently representing De Vere, with the group continuing its support of golf at all levels of the game. On the European Tour, Matthew Baldwin from Southport continues his development after an impressive rookie season last year in which he recorded a Top 75 finish on the Race to Dubai and qualified for both The Open and US Open Championships. The former England Boys Captain, who wears the De Vere Club logo on Tour, has finished inside the Top 25 in three of his last five events this year. Other De Vere ambassadors include Rugby legend Gavin Hastings, QPR Manager Harry Redknapp and Olympic Gold Medallist, Katherine Grainger.

“We’re really proud of Alex. He has been working incredibly hard over the last few years and we’re delighted to see him competing at such a high-level,” noted Keith Pickard, Regional Golf Director. “He has aspirations to make it all the way to the top of the game and we’re behind him 100%. Not only does he have the ability and drive to succeed, but he is enthusiastic and incredibly professional in everything he does. We get to see his work ethic first-hand, when practicing in between events. We’re thrilled to be associated with him and look forward to watching him over the next few months.”
