Many believe that Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are the men to beat at the 2025 Masters, but the field this year is once again packed with several contenders that you could see slipping into the iconic Green Jacket.

Golfshake's Derek Clements has picked out ten players that he is watching closely this week.

Ludvig Aberg

Finished second on his debut in 2024 and won the Genesis in style earlier this year. Has no weaknesses and possesses arguably the best temperament in the entire field.

Rory McIlroy

The Northern Irishman has made a superb start to 2025 and will head to Augusta with high hopes of finally claiming the career grand slam. A good start is key to his hopes.

One of golf’s quiet men and is hugely underrated. He has a decent record on tough courses and does everything really well. A winner this year who is a genuine dark horse this week.

Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler

Write him off at your peril. The world number one had been struggling but returned to something like his best in Houston.  And that could be bad news for the rest.

Bryson Dechambeau

It has taken long enough but the US Open champion has matured and now realises it is impossible to overpower every course he plays. Fabulous entertainer.

Justin Thomas

It has taken long enough but the real Justin Thomas has finally re-emerged. Swinging the club well again and remains one of the best putters from 10 feet and in.

Shane Lowry

The former Open champion certainly has the game to win a second major and has been playing some wonderful golf this season. It’s all about his self-belief.

Tyrrell Hatton

Can he win? Of course. Has been playing wondrous golf for months but there have to be questions about how his temperament will stand up to Augusta National.

Jon Rahm

Former champion has continued to enjoy success since his big-money move to LIV but seems to have lost his edge.

Min Woo Lee

The brother of Minjee Lee is something of an enigma. When he is good he is very good but he remains incredibly inconsistent. On his game, he can win anywhere - as he proved in Houston.
