TaylorMade P790 Irons Review - 2025 vs 2023

The TaylorMade P790 irons have been around for a while and they have gone through several generations, with the latest edition (the fifth) boasting a slightly smaller, sleeker looking head than the last model.

Engineered to offer increased carry distance, a premium forged feel, and a 24% larger sweet spot to provide golfers with added consistency and performance, these irons should appeal to a wide range of players.

The new P790 irons utilise a new forged face material - 4340M. This is 20% stronger, which has allowed the engineers to design the face thinner and faster than previous models.

Strategic repositioning of up to 40g of tungsten internally has made the new P790 more stable, with the centre of gravity being positioned lowest in the long irons for an easier launch, while it's progressively higher in the shorter irons for greater spin, distance and trajectory control.

This all sounds promising, but is the new, fifth generation of these irons truly superior to what came before?

Golfshake's Equipment Expert, Ryan Rastall has tested them for us at Howley Hall Golf Club in Leeds and compared the 2025 P790 with the class of 2023 to see what improvements show up on Trackman.

You can see his findings below or by watching the video on YouTube.
