The Christmas Gifts That All Golfers Really Want

By: | Tue 10 Dec 2024

If you are a golfer then, like me, you will surely dread some of the gifts you will be opening on December 25. We have all had some awful presents from our nearest and dearest. They mean well but they keep getting it wrong.

So with your best interests at heart, I have put together a list of the gifts that we would all like to wake up to. Why not print it out and leave it where it can be found?

Golf Balls

Titleist Golf Balls

Oh dear! I do not want cheap golf balls. I will never ever use cheap golf balls. Ask me what balls I would be happy to put in my golf bag? Titleist Pro V1s will always go down well but the bottom line is that we want you to buy us golf balls by manufacturers we know and love - Callaway, TaylorMade, Srixon for starters. And here’s the best bit - if you buy me three dozen you are probably going to get a discount!

Hand Warmers

If you are buying me a golf-related present for Christmas then it means I play golf all year round. There is nothing worse than having cold hands on the course. Hand warmers are a real boon but please don’t buy me the cheapest ones you can find because they simply won’t be up to the job. Do a bit of research, read some reviews. I am likely to be on the course for at least four hours - will they still be as effective on the 18th green as they were on the first tee? Useful hint - do they have a USB port? If they do, buy them for me.

Thermal Gloves

Winter Golf Gloves

Every golfer loves proper thermal gloves. I already possess two pairs - but I had to buy them myself! Thermal gloves are a perfectly acceptable stocking filler.

Golf Glove

Golf Gloves

You know your golf glove size and you know the make you like to wear - share that information.

Groove Cleaner

Most of us don’t clean the grooves in our irons properly. A groove cleaner will put that right, allowing you to keep the dirt out as you go along.

Marker Pen

Most golfers find themselves scrabbling round their golf bag looking for something to use to mark their golf ball. If you buy me a proper marker pen I promise you that I will use it.

Tee Tin

Speaking of scrabbling around in your golf bag…I spend at least five minutes before every round trying to sort out the tees I will need for my round. A tee tin is cheap - and I will use it.

Pitchmark Repairer

You can never have too many pitchmark repairers!

Polo Shirts

Golf Polo Shirts

I love my collection of golf polo shirts and I will go to sleep on Christmas Eve knowing that I will be having some added to my collection the following day. And my family know better than to get me any polo tops that are not brand names. You get what you pay for. More accurately, you get what your family pays for!

Golf Shoes

Golf Shoes

If you want to put a smile on my face, ask Santa to get me a pair of "proper" waterproof golf shoes. If you want to see me frown you will only spend about £50. Please don’t do that. They won’t be effective - and will probably fall to bits in weeks. Oh, and I will be playing in wet and muddy weather so please don’t buy me white shoes! I will start off intending to clean them after every round but we all know that simply won’t last.

Shoe Bag

If you are buying shoes for the special person in your life then I can guarantee that he or she will be thrilled if you also throw in a shoe bag. Shoes get dirty - being able to put them in a bag at the end of the round ensures the boot of your car remains clean.

Umbrella

Golfers can never have too many sturdy golf umbrellas. The key word there is "sturdy". My new umbrella needs to be able to withstand playing in the wind. I live and play in the UK - it is going to be windy!

GPS Device

Golf GPS

Make my Christmas by treating me to either a laser device or GPS watch but I have yet another appeal to make on behalf of all golfers - please read reviews and please don’t buy me one that costs £50.

Golf Lessons

I am constantly saying that we should all have golf lessons. For me, it is a no-brainer. Let your nearest and dearest know who your favourite teaching pro is and where he or she is based and drop lots of hints. Hopefully they will hear you and provide you with a voucher that will entitle you to some lessons.

Driving Range Card

I spend a lot of time at the driving range and have only just realised that they offer vouchers. What a great idea. Hint, hint!

Custom Fitting

OK, so now we are entering the realms of fantasy gifts but if you are contemplating treating yourself to a set of custom-built clubs why not ask your family to get you some vouchers towards the cost?

Golf Key Ring

This would be my guilty pleasure and the only reason I want one for Christmas is because in our home we all throw our keys into a bowl and I often walk out with the wrong keys in my hand. So yes, I would be happy with a golf key ring but keep that to yourself because if my family find out I will end up with lots of them.

Gift Pack

Let’s be clear about this one - I want the pack that includes a groove cleaner, a pitchmark repairer, marker pen and ball markers. I don’t know about you, but I keep misplacing my favourite ball marker! I do not want a novelty gift pack. I am a serious golfer!

Voucher

If all else fails please let me make my own decisions. I will love you forever if you get me a voucher that I can spend in either my pro’s shop or at a golf retailer. And the best thing of all is that come January there will be a sale and I can get more for my money. The downside to this is that you will know from the amount on the voucher exactly what your nearest and dearest think of you.
