What Makes Someone a Golf Addict

I am a self-confessed golf addict. I was bitten by the bug at a very early age and as hard as I have tried I have never been able to find a cure. It may well be that there isn’t one.

I watch as much golf on TV as I can and I love writing about it.

Are you also a golf addict? We are about to find out. Here are the symptoms I suffer from - if you are similarly afflicted in any way then you are also an addict.

Do You Have These Golf Addiction Symptoms?

If you waken up in the morning, having arranged a game, and it is tipping down with rain you are most definitely a golf addict if, without hesitation, you head out to the car and drive to the course without even noticing that the conditions are almost unplayable. And cannot for the life of you understand why nobody else wants to play!

If you go to bed at night and relive every single shot from that day’s round then you are an addict.

If you simply must have the latest driver in your bag at the start of every season you are an addict.

If you buy said driver without checking how much it is going to cost then, yes, you are a hopeless case.

If you go to the driving range more than once a week then you are beyond help.

If you are able to name the winner of the 1985 US Open without have to Google it then go to the top of the class (it was Andy North, by the way, and I did not have to Google it).

If you are a member of two golf clubs then your addiction may require some treatment.

You have booked a supposed family holiday but have secretly checked out the nearby golf courses without telling your partner - yep, that addiction is a serious one.

You think nothing of going for endless lessons - and then spend HOURS putting it into practice.

If you have a number of colour-coordinated golf outfits it may be time to consider finding a therapist.

When you change your car your first requirement is not fuel consumption, performance or its green credentials - the only thing that matters to you is whether there is enough boot space to fit in your golf clubs and trolley.

When you waken up in the morning and realise that you have been dreaming about playing golf then things may have gone too far?

Answer These Golf Questions!

Do you answer yes to the following questions?

Do you put down a brand new Titleist Pro V1 at the start of every round?

Do you run a golf society?

Do you have more than one putter?

When you play golf, do you always do so for money?

Have you introduced some otherwise totally innocent individual to golf?

When in the clubhouse after your round, do you talk everybody through every shot you just played?

Are you oblivious to the glassy-eyed looks you get when extolling the virtues of your round?

Do you spiral into a fit of depression after a bad round?

Do you ever lose your temper on the golf course?

Do you have custom-fitted clubs?

Do you change your clubs every year?

Can you remember every shot you ever played?

When the dates are announced for ticket sales for The Open, do you immediately register for the ballot?

Do you know the exact length of The Road Hole?

Do you get withdrawal symptoms if, for any reason, you are unable to play?

Do you know who Luke Clanton is?

Can you name the past five winners of The Masters?

Have you played every course on The Open rota?

Do you know where the RBC Heritage is played?

Have you ever attended the Ryder Cup?

Well Then - Are You a Golf Addict?

If you answered yes to all 20 questions then I am sorry - you are a hopeless addict.

If you answered yes to between 15 and 19 questions you are well on your way.

If you answered yes to between 10 and 14 questions then therapy may still help you.

If you answered yes to fewer than 10 questions it may not be too late for you to seek some professional help.
