The Coolest Event in Golf Begins Today
The new golf season must be imminent as this week sees the playing of one of the game's coolest events, the Sunningdale Foursomes.
First held in 1934, this unique tournament has long brought together an eclectic collection of pairings who have teamed up to compete in a knockout competition across this historic club's famous Old Course and New Course.
2025 is the 91st edition of the event, and the entry list (as always) features a number of intriguing and well-known names, including tour professionals, major champions and Solheim Cup stars.
Indeed, looking through the draw, your eye is immediately drawn to the pair of Georgia Hall and Charley Hull. Two longtime friends, we've seen them represent Europe on the big stage, and they are together again in search of glory in Berkshire.

Sunningdale themselves say: "The tournament is over-subscribed and entries are limited to 128 pairs with entrants required to support a list of recent golfing achievements in order to support their entry."
When you're competing for a place against the likes of Hall and Hull - then you know that demand is high.
Elsewhere, other names who jump off the page are 2009 Women's Open champion Catriona Matthew (teaming with former R&A Chief Executive Martin Slumbers), Robert Rock, Oliver Fisher, Alex Fitzpatrick, Simon Khan, and 2016 Amateur champion Scott Gregory.
Legendary Welsh footballer Gareth Bale is also playing, as is popular Sky Sports Golf broadcaster Iona Stephen.
The first round begins today - Tuesday 11th March - and will conclude on Friday, with the semi-finals and final on the Old Course.
Playing the two revered layouts at Sunningdale is a dream for many golfers, but doing so in such a competition, ushering in the early days of spring, must be truly magical.
When we think of the coolest things you can do in golf - the Sunningdale Foursomes is right up there!
