Ben Hogan PTx Tour Irons Review

By: Golfshake Editor | Mon 09 Sep 2024

The Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company is a timeless brand in the game and that name instantly conjures up images of quality and greatness.

Building on that rich legacy, the all-new PTx Tour irons look spectacular and they also boast game-enhancing technologies that might just help you reach the next level.

Indeed, these could be the irons that you've been looking for.

Golfshake's Equipment Expert, Ryan Rastall has taken a closer look at them, testing the irons on Trackman from his base at Howley Hall Golf Club in Leeds in addition to taking them for a spin on the majestic golf course at Dundonald Links in Ayrshire.

You can see what Ryan thought of the latest Ben Hogan irons by watching our new video on YouTube or at the bottom of this page.

Ben Hogan PTx Tour Irons - What You Need to Know

Ben Hogan Irons

The PTx Tour is a combo set, with each iron being carefully shaped and sized, from the four-piece long irons to the one-piece short irons, ensuring that there is a smooth transition through the bag.

Covering irons 4 & 5, the long irons use a four-piece construction to help golfers hit them higher and farther, as the bodies and faces are forged from 1025 carbon steel to deliver the best feel and consistency.

The inside of the head is foam filled for enhanced perimeter weighting and a soft, solid feel, while internal tungsten weights further enhance forgiveness and move weight lower in the club heads.

Serving as a bridge between the long irons to the mid irons, the PTx 6-iron features three-piece construction, and its design does not require a tungsten weight, as its weighting is already precisely tuned.

Moving onto those mid irons (7 & 8), which also use a three-piece construction, these clubs boast 1025 forged carbon steel bodies and a co-forged titanium insert that enhances forgiveness while also moving weight higher to prevent ballooning.

Finally, the short irons (9 & PW) are precise. They are one-piece irons forged from 1025 carbon steel to deliver the ultimate in shot-making performance and control. These are true scoring clubs made with the highest level of precision.

All of these irons offer enhanced V-SOLE design. With a high-bounce leading edge and soft, lower-bounce trailing edge on the sole, this unique design will help the clubhead move cleanly through the turf, even from the longest rough.

PTx Tour irons are built with 4° loft gapping from 4-iron (21.5°) to pitching wedge (45.5°). These lofts are ideal for most golfers, but their lofts can be customised up to 2° stronger or weaker to deliver optimised performance for golfers with different trajectory needs.

Both lie angles (+/- 2 degrees) and lengths (+/- 2 inches) are also customisable, as are shafts and grips. The PTx Tour irons can also be built in sets of 4-PW (7 clubs) or 5-PW (6 clubs) to meet the needs of golfers with different set compositions.

PTx Tour irons are available in a set directly from https://www.benhogangolf.co.uk/ptx-tour-irons/ costing £699.99.
