Keegan Bradley The Eye-catching Presidents Cup Pick For USA

By: | Thu 05 Sep 2024

The eye-catching captain’s pick named by Jim Furyk for the US team to face the International side at Royal Montreal later this month was Keegan Bradley. But Justin Thomas misses out for the first time since 2015.

Bradley is, of course, the captain of the America’s Ryder Cup team that will attempt to wrestle back the trophy from Europe next year.

Weir’s side will be striving for their first since 1998 and only the second in the 30-year history of the competition.

Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Jason Day and Byeong Hun An qualified automatically for the hosts, while Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay and Sahith Theegala had already earned their spots for the US side.

Weir gave captain’s picks to South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Korean Si Woo Kim, Australian Min Woo Lee, and Canadians Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, and Taylor Pendrith.

Conners finished seventh in the standings, Lee 9th, Bezuidenhout 10th, Pendrith 11th, Taylor 12th, Kim 14th, and Hughes 15th.

However, Australian Cam Davis, who finished eighth, missed out, as did Adam Hadwin, Erik van Rooyen and Ryan Fox, who finished 13th, 16th and 18th respectively.

Furyk, meanwhile, picked the next six players in the US standings - Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Russell Henley, Keegan Bradley, Brian Harman and Max Homa.

Bradley will also serve as an assistant to Furyk.

Furyk said: “When I named Keegan as a captain’s assistant for the Presidents Cup I knew there was a chance he would play his way onto the US team. And I can say without a doubt he did just that.

“The grit he showed in the final round in Memphis followed by the win in Denver exemplified the competitive nature he has always played with, and I know he will bring that same fire to Royal Montreal in a few weeks.”

There was no place for Thomas, who has struggled to find his best form in 2024, while Jordan Spieth is recovering from wrist surgery.

As it is a PGA Tour-sanctioned event, it means there will be no LIV golfers, so Brooks Koepka, US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith and Joaquin Niemann will be missing for the home side.
