Exciting Changes Are Coming to Vilamoura Golf Courses in Portugal

By: Golfshake Editor | Thu 11 Apr 2024

Vilamoura is one of the most celebrated locations in Europe and the future of this Portuguese jewel is set to be an exciting one after a newly established, independent sports and hospitality management platform will take over the venue.

DETAILS will oversee the assets within the Dom Pedro Hotels and Golf Collection, which have made the Algarve the hottest spot for visiting golfers on the continent, including the famous Vilamoura Old Course.

The move comes as part of a major multi-year development plan, which will see Vilamoura significantly enhanced through a series of ambitious upgrades, serving to further attract travellers seeking the very best leisure and lifestyle experience the Iberian Peninsula has to offer.

In addition to the Vilamoura Old Course, the Dom Pedro Hotels and Golf Collection comprises the highly popular Dom Pedro Portobelo, Dom Pedro Marina and Dom Pedro Vilamoura hotels, as well as the Victoria, Pinhal, Laguna and Millennium golf courses.

The Dom Pedro Victoria course hosted the European Tour’s Portugal Masters between 2007 and 2022 and saw victories for the likes of Open champions, Padraig Harrington and Shane Lowry, as well as England’s Ryder Cup stalwart, Lee Westwood.

Away from Dom Pedro, the Palmares, Vale Pisão and Aroeira (Pines Classic and Challenge) golf courses will take the DETAILS golf portfolio to nine courses in total.

Golfers can expect further news in the near future regarding DETAILS’ enhancement plans, which will see returning travellers to Vilamoura delighted by the positive evolution of an already favourite destination.

Nuno Sepulveda, Co-Chief Executive Officer at DETAILS - Hospitality, Sports, Leisure, said: "We are very excited about taking our amazing properties in Vilamoura to the next level, not just in terms of improving and future-proofing our superb facilities, but ensuring our guests continue to create unforgettable memories.

"Since 2023, we have made significant changes to the sites - with sustainability at the core of those changes - and we are looking forward to sharing our world-class facilities with our guests."

Development plans will also see the creation of a state-of-the-art multi-sport facility alongside significant upgrades to Vilamoura’s existing equestrian centre.

Dom Pedro’s portfolio of hotels in Lagos, and Madeira will also be fully operated by DETAILS, which also manages the following resorts:

  • Topázio Vibe Beach Hotel & Apartments, Albufeira
  • Vale D’Oliveiras Quina Resort & Spa, Carvoeiro/Lagos
  • Bertolina Guesthouse, Albufeira
  • Velamar Boutique Hotel, Olhos de Água
  • Aqua Pedra Dos Bicos Design Beach Hotel, Albufeira
  • Vale d’El Rei Hotel & Villas, Lagos
  • Vale Da Lapa Village Resort, Carvoeiro.

DETAILS will have full management control of the assets with responsibilities ranging from CapEx planning and partner brand negotiation to HR and Sales & Marketing, as they aim to reinstate Vilamoura as Europe’s elite golf and leisure destination.
