The Best Players Irons For 2024

By: | Tue 26 Mar 2024

If you're a lower handicap golfer who requires a new set of irons, then players sets are the ones that could allow you to take your game to the next level.

These blade-style irons offer greater workability and feel with your approach play, with these clubs being the ones that you will routinely see deployed by the world's best on tour.

Golfshake's Equipment Expert, Ryan Rastall has picked out his favourites for 2024, which you can watch directly on YouTube or by checking out the bottom of this page.

Before you get there, we recommend that you first take a closer glance at the finest options on the market this year!

2024 Players Irons

What Are Players Irons?

All golfers are different, and each category of player requires the irons that most suit them. We have previously covered game improvement models (tailored for higher handicappers) and mid-handicap irons, but we now take a closer look at players irons, which are the clubs that the manufacturers have designed to best suit those golfers who are keen for a sleeker model with a thinner face that allows for greater feel and ability to work the ball.

Wilson Staff Model Blades

Many of the game's legends have loved Wilson Staff blades throughout the years, and these are no exception. Golfshake's Ryan Rastall was hugely impressed by them and he believes that any golfer desiring a blade with a faint touch of forgiveness should give these much consideration. During their construction, weight has been removed from the base of the hosel for a more flowing feel, with the muscle area being extremely biased towards the toe. The combination of a Fluid Feel Hosel and Precision Toe Weighting has pushed the CG towards the toe, which allows better alignment of the CG to the centre of the face and the expansion of the hitting area, which offers greater forgiveness than would otherwise be possible.

Srixon ZX7 MKII

The Srixon ZX7 boasts a thin topline and a compact profile that lower-handicap golfers will love. When these irons were created, the engineers relocated the mass directly behind the sweet-spot and also the perimeter. Like other Srixon models, the ZX7 offers progressive groove styling to ensure shorter irons are as precise as possible. If you come into the ball too steeply, the Tour V.T. design on the sole delivers superb turf interaction, which makes this a great iron for those who are making the transition to a players iron without giving up much distance.

Callaway Apex MB

Callaway's Apex MB offers a pure feeling for better golfers as its body and face are forged as one-piece from 1025 carbon steel. Showcasing Dynamic Sole Design, which allows the club to freely move through the turf, the MB irons boasts a progressive Centre of Gravity that ensures reliable trajectory. When reviewing these irons, Ryan said: "On paper, the least forgiving. In terms of looks, it’s the most appealing for me with a slightly longer blade length. It feels very different to the other two but still very nice. It’s easy to launch - despite coming in an unforgiving package - and this one should feel the best on a centre hit. I prefer the shape of it."

You can't have a list of players irons without including a Titleist, and Ryan has elected for the 620MB, which is a modern muscle back that has been engineered for precise shotmaking. These feature progressive blade lengths through the set, with compact short irons progressing into slightly larger blade lengths.
