Looks
I love stats! Shot Scope certainly offers these by the bucket load. However, the V2 model, I felt was too bulky. I'm not a fan of wearing anything on my wrists either. BUT, I was desperate to try out the V3 and I was not disappointed. The watch is the same size as an average smart watch, with a variety of strap colours. A huge upgrade on the previous model, the tags come in a black colour, which attach to the grip, and they aren't really noticeable unless you look closely.
Feel
Genuinely, for the most part, I can't even feel I'm wearing it! Very light and well-shaped, the strap has double fastening to keep it secure. The tags sit at the top of the grip and do not interfere with your golf swing at all.
Performance
The watch itself also offers GPS information - front/middle/back of the green. It is clear and easy to read and the buttons keep things simple. Hazards are shown with a touch of a button too.
Using the watch is really easy, especially with the updated functionality (where the watch indicates the last club used) allowing the user to only need to press one button per hole to collect the pin location and number of putts.
Once you've finished, connect your band to the Shot Scope App (download required to set up tags prior to first use) and upload your round, you then can edit and sign off to confirm that it is correct. This does require a bit of effort, which is totally worth it, as I have found it much easier doing online via the dashboard rather than on the app itself.
If you forget to pin collect or if the club isn't recorded, all this can be corrected. I have had to do some editing on each of my rounds. The data collected is staggering. Tee shots, approaches, short game, putting - all with extra breakdowns. You get to see overall stats, but how far each club goes, if you hit it left, right, long or short.
I know an update is on the cards which will allow the user to see how many strokes are gained or lost - this will be a great addition. I think if you know how to use the data, you can see how patterns emerge (would be great to take to your local pro) and areas of improvements can be highlighted.
Verdict
Pros
This is a fantastic product which gives you an easy way to track and view all of your rounds/shots, all in the size of a smart watch and the added bonus offering GPS distances as well. Small, lightweight, good quality - LOTS of data! Used over time, it gives the user such a great overview of their golf game.
Cons
Editing rounds can be a bit frustrating. I don't have full practice swings (which wakes the watch up), so have to check the watch has logged the club (the new update helped me hugely). I had two tags break (but you get 20 so used the spares!)
The Bottom Line
A must have for anyone who wants to keep track of their golf stats, in a simple and easy way. I think the best thing is knowing exactly what happened in a round, the classic post-round comments, "played great but holed nothing!" will be a thing of the past.
Shot Scope V3 provides you with the true analysis of each round - and I will be continuing to use it!
