TaylorMade M5 Driver Review

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 15 Jan 2019

This year, TaylorMade has introduced its new M5 Driver, featuring the brand's headline Twist Face technology. PGA Professional and Golfshake Equipment Expert Ryan Rastall has tested and reviewed the club for us, explaining the technologies and whether it could be suited for your game.

There are four key features to the design of Speed Injected Twist Face that allow TaylorMade to maximise ballspeed, working in unison to allow every M5 & M6 driver to be precision-tuned with a new, rigorous process to maximise speed to the allowable limit.

  • Ultra-thin Titanium face with redesigned Inverted Cone Technology (ICT)
  • Reengineered, more-flexible Hammerhead 2.0 slot
  • Internal support foam with variable amounts of injected resin
  • A proprietary algorithm to tune each head

Ryan, whose Golf Coaching, Custom Fitting, and Golf Shop centre is based at Howley Hall Golf Club in Leeds, took a closer look at the new M5 for us, and noted: "We've now had this driver on the TrackMan inside and outside on the golf course to see how it performs, and initial feedback would be very good, feels very solid off the head, but really when I was looking at the numbers, ball-speed wise, I didn't quite get what I was expecting, with the technology that has been introduced into this driver, I was expectating it to be seriously long, but the reason why, I think, is that I've only tested it with the standard manufacturer's stiff flix, and that was maybe a bit light for me. If I was properly fitted for this driver, I would see even more yardage gain."
