DEVEL Pitchfork Review
Golfshake ambassador Andrew Picken recently tested out the DEVEL Pitchfork which is described as being a unique and innovative pitckmark repairer.
Introduction
DEVEL Golf is an innovative UK golf brand from the UK set up by two brothers from Scotland who are passionate golfers. DEVEL Golf aims to change the way golf accessories are designed and used. They create and make products for golfers by golfers, concentrating on producing innovative, bespoke golfing accessories. The three-pronged pitch mark repairer was developed as research indicated that this would be an optimum design.
Tech Specs
The original prototypes evolved from a kitchen fork with reduced prongs. The design enables the repairer to support the edge of the divot whilst still enabling the middle prong to elevate the damaged area. They are presented in an attractive bespoke metal tin.
Looks
The presentation tin looks great and is clearly designed for the gift market. Initially, I thought I should be carrying the repairer in a tin in my pocket, thinking that the prongs would be too sharp to be comfortable. But this is not the case due to the clever beveling around the edges.
The colour options are funky and the shiny metallic finish looks terrific. Match it with the exquisite Welsh slate ball markers and you have an eye catching set for use on the green.
Feel
No problems were encountered with the sharpness of the prongs and the item worked perfectly leaving an excellently repaired divot. A greenkeeper acquaintance was sceptical about the repairer but after I offered to tidy a green after use by a society he was delighted by the results It is easy to use and effective.
It is really light and is easy to carry in the trouser pocket. The marker is attached with a simple magnet. It is easy to use and i have to admit to having added it straight to my current bag for daily use.
Performance
I can't pretend that it was better than any other conventional repairer but using it ensured a well-repaired pitchmark for those playing behind me. It was easy to use and looked good. I liked it.
Pros
This is a cleverly designed piece of equipment that flies in the face of convention - a bit like me! I like being a little bit different but still ensuring that the task in hand has been completed properly. I would be happy to receive this item as a gift they are well designed and attractive. The company's website is great and the prices are competitive.
Cons
None. Works well. Does the job and looks good.
The Bottom Line
If Santa is reading this I would happily wake up to a stocking containing a new DEVEL pitch mark repairer. Perhaps he could stretch to one of the limited edition ball markers created by one of my favourite golfing artists Olivera Cejovic. Each is limited to an edition of 100 and some of the designs are fantastic.
I also really liked the welsh slate ball markers. They are laser etched with the company logo and can be made bespoke by contact with the company. They are presented in a small Harris Tweed woollen pouch made in the Outer Hebrides. This is a great marketing touch and actually helps the item to be carried in the pocket without it being chipped and scratched.
The DEVEL Golf ball markers start at £4.99 and the pitch mark repairer at £7.99.
