Golf Fans Shocked by 2025 Ryder Cup Ticket Prices

By: | Tue 15 Oct 2024

The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black was sure to be one of the most hotly anticipated golf events in living memory, but if you want to be part of the action on Long Island in New York, the staggering ticket prices might just dampen that enthusiasm.

Widely shared on social media, the cost for daily tickets went viral - but not in a positive sense of the word. Golf fans were almost universally aghast at what they viewed as extortionate prices.

Followers of sports in America have long become accustomed to the cost of a ticket for the likes of the Super Bowl and World Series, which can total in the thousands, but now the Ryder Cup, considered by many, especially in a commercial sense, the premier showcase in golf isn't far behind.

Daily tickets for each of the three competitive days of the matches - Friday, Saturday and Sunday - will cost a shocking $749.51 each.

Should you instead prefer to take in a practice day, on Tuesday or Wednesday, it would cost $255.27, with Thursday's tickets, including the opening ceremony, setting you back $423.64.

These tickets are known as "Ryder Cup+" - with reported benefits being "access to unlimited food and non-alcoholic beverages at all market concessions throughout the grounds at no extra cost."

You would need to consume a lot of burgers to justify that price. And it doesn't even include the cost of parking, which has yet to be announced.

Ryder Cup Tickets

For comparison, last year's Ryder Cup at Marco Simone on the outskirts of Rome saw ticket prices of €250 for Friday and Saturday tickets and €260 for Sunday. That equates to between $265 and $275.

The PGA of America - which oversees the Ryder Cup in the United States - has been widely panned on social media.

Kevin Van Valkenburg, Editorial Director of No Laying Up, wrote on Twitter: "I would like to go on the record now and say that if Europe wins the Ryder Cup at Bethpage because the crowds were turned into a polite snooze fest like LACC (Los Angeles Country Club at the 2023 US Open) by the insane ticket prices, it's going to go down as a massive own goal."

Some had speculated that the typically raucous New York crowds would create a hostile atmosphere, but that could be diluted by prices that will almost certainly dissuade a significant number of people from attending.

We have just covered how golfers are being priced out of playing some of our leading courses, but now it appears that the same fate will befall those who may wish to attend one of the sport's grandest showpieces.

This is not just a problem in golf - but in elite sport overall - as the demands placed on the pockets of spectators are becoming greater by the year.

The Ryder Cup is unlike any other tournament in golf and the atmosphere is something that every golf fan should experience. The experts at Golfbreaks.com can help with all aspects of your Ryder Cup experience, from accommodation and ticket packages to hospitality and travel and playing some of the fantastic nearby courses.
