Effective Practice Series with Steve Astle
Steve Astle, the Head of Instruction at EMGA in Derbyshire explains his 3T's box method to help you improve your practice efficieny when on the range. By breaking your practice session into 3 different areas that focus on technical, transition and tournament, your goals when practicing become clearer and more detailed.
The technical area revolves around working on something a coach may have told you about, this could be something simple but is crucial to your own personal golf swing and needs to be practiced efficiently and correctly.
The next box is transition, this is where you will take the technical work you have been practicing and apply it to a real world situation, something like a pre-shot routine for example would be specific to this box area.
The final box is tournament, this is where you take everything you have worked on and apply it to tournament conditions. This might be a competition between friends, or simply creating a pressurised enviroment to test out the effectiveness of your golf swing.
By utilising all three of these practice areas you will make your practice more efficient, and a lot more effective.
