What the club says: Opened in 2008 and designed by Nick Faldo with strategic play in mind this 6,604 meters par–72 championship course demands careful positioning to score well.
In a modern twist of a traditional recipe, cacti and wild herbs replace the role of Sunningdale’s heather, spartan Holm oaks and ancient olive trees take the place of a lush English woodland, and desert scrub bunkers of crushed limestone replace Berkshire’s sandy tracts in a golf course that revels in the classic principles of strategic play.

Great course
Really good fun long course, getting a buggy is a must as the transfers between holes are huge. Cart girl looked after us well going back to the clubhouse to get us freshly made sandwiches before she clocked off.(Round played: Aug 2021 - Score: 98 Handicap: 21.4)

Algarve beauty!!
First round here & was very pleasently surprized. Played Faldo courses before & it conformed to those : tight fairways; no room for big errors & huge greens. This really was a delight to play & owes me a few shots!! Well worth buying a course guide beforehand. We got a summer special rate which was outstanding value for money.(Round played: Aug 2020 - Score: 99 Handicap: 19.3)

What a gem!
This is now called Amendoeira Golf Resort, which consists of a floodlit 9 hole course, and the Faldo and O'Connor courses. This was played as part of a package, so included buggies, but these are an absolute MUST on the Faldo course. The course is extremely long, and very hilly, and there are also long drives in the buggies to get from greens to the next tees. To give you an idea, one of our ladies still managed to walk over 10,000 steps (according to her fitbit), even though she was in a buggy - part of this being that you can't park anywhere near most of the greens!Starting at the beginning - the clubhouse is fantastic, but everything (polo shirts, shoes, waterproofs, caps) is VERY expensive. I got the impression they haven't figured out that you actually need to SELL things in order to show a profit!
The course(s) sit in the middle of a housing estate which the owners can't sell, because a hotel was supposed to be built, and the necessary licences won't be granted until the hotel is built! Unfortunately, the developers ran out of money. Anyway; the courses survive and the Faldo is STUNNING but VERY long.
The tees were very good, but some tidy-up was needed around some of them, and you need to be careful where you take the buggies - I parked next to a tee, and the buggy wouldn't allow me to go forward, but only to reverse out of the area I was in, which was difficult as I'd already turned the buggy around to face out of that area!
Greens were consistently good and quick despite some recent rains, but I found myself in bunkers which had very little sand in them - just a thin layer before hitting clay.
Fairways were perfect, but being January, I doubt if the greenkeepers need to do much to keep on top of them. For us mere mortals, some of the carries to get TO the fairways were long, and the holes themselves were invariably long. As an example one of the par 4's was 433 Metres - that's 476 yards, off the yellow tees!!
On the day we played, GPS was not working in the buggies - I believe because of non-payment of necessary fees for GPS!, so we regularly got into trouble as we didn't know where a number of the hazards were, which was a particular problem on the 18th hole.
I've read that visitors think that Sir Nick was going through one of his divorces, and designed the course whilst he was in a bad mood - almost every shot I had to a green had to be carried the full distance, as anything short would end up in a bunker. Despite this difficulty, to a man (and woman), we all wanted to play the course again, and I would highly recommend and would definitely play this one again

Great course, testing layout
The Faldo layout at Amendoeira is a great test of your golf. Great variety of holes, meandering terrain and far reaching views. Some greens were a little variable on our visit but generally a great course.
