What the club says: The award winning Badgers Par 3 is a truly beautiful course of outstanding natural beauty, widely regarded as one of the finest of its kind. Set in the middle of a woodland glade, in a tranquil spot, over undulating countryside, with an abundance of water & sand features, this is a fine & very challenging course. It takes its name from the resident families of wild badgers who live there in a special conservation area.

Bunsay Downs Coure is a mature & very attractive course with sweeping views over gentle gradients, it is suitable for all ages, abilities and standards of golfer, from the novice to the experienced player.

Awful

I remember this course as being great to play. Unfortunately the greens are now extremely poor, diseased and weed ridden (not to mention the various badger diggings!) In addition the sprinkler system seems to flood the greens rather than soften them. £15 to play this course is a total rip off. I've emailed the club direct to advise them of all of this

Bunsay (Badgers)

First time I’ve been for a number of years. Took my son, promising what I remembered to be akin to a beautiful “mini-Augusta”.
Unfortunately the course was in very poor nick, especially the greens. Some were utterly dug up (moles??), some littered with weeds and overall very little in the way of a proper putting surface. The bunkers were rock solid - indeed my son shot a direct hit into a bunker, the ball ricocheted out of the solid sand and landed a couple of feet away from the pin! The bar was poorly stocked despite being well into a heatwave that was expected with plenty of notice. Great layout, but really poor nick I’m afraid.
£15 green fee, great value if the greens were better…

Mr

Badgers is one of the best par 3 courses played, don't be fooled by it being a par 3 as you might loose some balls. There has been a big improvement with the course recently, well worth a visit.

Not having played here since before the dreaded covid we were looking forward to trying this nice little course again. We played 9 holes on the par 3 Badgers ( one of the best par 3 layouts in Essex) and 9 holes on the Bunsey course. What a shock we had ! The grass on the fairways was as long as the rough, the greens were unkempt, full of weeds and animal scrapes, the bunkers were full of weeds and unplayable. It seems to me that the mother course ( The Warren ) must be hogging all the ground staff and ignoring its little brother or is that course just as bad. Won't be playing here again !!!

I have been a member at Bunsay Downs for many years and have watched the course deteriorate badly. Bunkers full of weeds which the owners (Warren Estate) are not interested in. They just want to build holiday lodges that they can't get planning permission for. Real shame as the club particularly Badgers the par 3 course has enormous potential.

Par 3 course. (Badgers) is in disarray. Sand and dirt on the tee box?. Very untidy and looks like it has been forgotten about. Used to be one of the best par 3 courses in Essex now any pitch and putt would be better.

£16 - In Perpective

We as a group had not played Bunsay for about 6 years..give or take and thought we would reminisce. The price was good, not Cafe so we went to the sister course (about a mile away for a Bacon Sarnie, etc) .
Back to the golf, we found the course had not changed much, shabby around the edges uncut grass areas, half-decent greens although full of weeds. This has the potential to be a really good club but it's very tired and needs investment. Service in the bar after was poor as the young lad had no idea about bar work.. still, we enjoyed the experience but probably won't be back for a few years again which is a shame.
