What the club says: Even without the prevailing westerly winds which often blow here, the 200 year old limestone walls, cleverly placed bunkers and the small, well-guarded greens make Whitburn a challenging but enjoyable test of golf for golfers of all standards.

Whitburn greens are considered to be among the best in the county. The course was originally laid out in 1934 by John Morrison, who was responsible for the re-development of both Wentworth and the Princes course at Sandwich. Although the course is officially described as parkland, the final five holes run along the coastline and are, to all but the true purist, links holes. The course also has five par 3's, all of which are generally played with a cross wind.

Great condition

Got awesome weather on our round-zero wind and no rain which is very rare in the north east! The course was in great condition and the greens were very fast -no straight putts here! Both of us really enjoyed ourselves

The changes and updates made to the course are fabulous and have made the course much more challenging without taking away the character of the place. The views are stunning.

Lovely course

Haven't played for a while, and there have been a few changes. Firstly the bunkers have been slightly altered and new sand installed. Personally I thought there was a bit too much sand in the greenside bunker at the 12th, as I struggled to get a stance, but I know bunkers can divide opinion a little. The last 5 holes have changed routing as well, with the old 15th now being the 17th and the 17th now the 15th. This allows a new elevated tee box on the 16th par 3. This is certainly spectacular, but the new routing did cause some confusion and some bunching up, as the teeing areas and rough adjacent to the two par 4 fairways are quite close. There was always a potential for this, and maybe things will settle down, but did throw us a bit. Also for ladies, the exit from the new 17th green takes you up on the hill where the gents tees are for the 18th, but the normal red tees are in their original place. This means that any women players have to walk up and back down the hill to get to their tees. Still enjoyed the course, and staff and members are really friendly. So, all good fun, just need to get used to the re-routing at the end.

Decent

Really enjoyed the course, tee boxes in perfect condition and greens lovely. Only thing wrong was the bunkers-they had little sand in so was difficult too play out of them. I did see some new sand near the clubhouse so looks like they trying too sort them out ??

Great course with some nice sea views & there's always a welcome in the clubhouse. Undergoing a few hole changes at the time which when complete with only enhance it's appeal.

Challenging at times, some blind holes where you don't know where you should play your shot for first timers but sure next time be much better. Great views.

With being members at a club inland we like to travel to the coast to play Whitburn every couple of months. Never again. The man today in the professional shop 29/12/2020 was the most arrogant bloke ive came across. \\After paying £24 to play we came at 8.48 and the course was in full frost with all temp greens on which were impossible to putt on so we didnt bother putting. Was chatting to a member passing by the fairways and he said we should ask for our money back as no way we should be paying £24 to play in this. \\Afterwards i went to the shop and politely explained that we play here regularly and i usually bring a few lads here as im the one local to the course. I said another member suggested we should ask about something back as the course wasnt any near near playable to the money we paid. He laughed and said no chance. \I even suggested could he maybe give us another round for half price as few of the lads had travelled far, in which he said no to that aswell.\\Me being a bit surprised at his approach and that i even mentioned to him you know i was even trying to persuade the lads to join before this he then suggested with a smile on his face if we all join now he will refund us our money, to which i replied you have made my mind up i wont be joining now because of your attitude.\\Walked away disappointed with the way we were treat and wont be returning because of that, which is a shame as i enjoy the course on a better day and i have put plenty money into it for many years.\\\
