West Mids Footballer Golf Day

The West Midlands Ex-Footballers golf day, held in honor of the Cyrille Regis Foundation, turned out to be a spectacular event. Hosted at the picturesque Walmley Golf Course, the day promised camaraderie, competition, and a celebration of Cyrille Regis's legacy – and it delivered on all fronts.

Accompanied by Colin Gibson, the former Aston Villa and Manchester United footballer, our day was nothing short of memorable. Colin's presence added an extra layer of excitement and nostalgia, reminding us of the incredible talent and sportsmanship that defines football legends.

The weather was simply perfect. After months of relentless rain, the sun shone brightly, casting a golden hue over the course. Despite the recent wet weather, Walmley Golf Course was in fantastic condition. The greens were lush, and the fairways were surprisingly firm, making for an excellent day of golf. Kudos to the groundskeepers for their impeccable maintenance.

Our team might not have finished in the top three, but the joy and satisfaction of playing on such a well-kept course, under perfect weather conditions, and in great company were the real victories of the day. Each hole presented its own set of challenges and triumphs, and every swing was met with encouraging cheers and laughter.

The day was also a testament to the community spirit fostered by events like these. Meeting and playing with former footballers and fellow golf enthusiasts while supporting the Cyrille Regis Foundation created an atmosphere of unity and purpose. It's events like these that remind us of the power of sports to bring people together and make a positive impact.

In conclusion, the West Midlands Ex-Footballers golf day at Walmley Golf Course was a resounding success. With amazing weather, a well-maintained course, and the inspiring presence of Colin Gibson, it was an unforgettable experience. We may not have taken home a trophy, but we left with something far more valuable – cherished memories and a strengthened sense of community. Here's to many more days like this, celebrating sport and making a difference.

Society Golf day, Great venue in the midlands

Fantastic course worth visiting, great people and an excellent value for a golf day. The catering was excellent, staff could not be more helpful, just a shame that my golf wasn't good! Can't blame the place for that though!

Solid golf course with great holes.

Located in a nice part of Birmingham. The club house is undergoing a 1.5 total refurbishment so our meet was in a marquee outside with serious but safe building working taking place on the clubhouse nearby. The pro shop is well stocked with a friendly informative pro willing to help and interact. The putting green was immaculate with net nearby too. The course itself is a good test of golf although some more directional signs between holes are badly needed. Fairways were good and lots of trees to content with and I won't forget the 5th hole which is downhill just past some water -tricky. The green were good but played a bit slow on the day. Generally on course- it pays to lay up where you can and not over club. Due to the temp set up,Food was linited- bacon roll and chips were supplied. The staff were friendly though and did their best to keep us refreshed on one of the hottest period of the year so far. I would recommend a visit especially when their gleaming club house is completed.

Very, very good!

Our Society enjoyed a splendid afternoon?s golf at Walmley and were impressed by the course layout and its challenges. Despite the brown fairways, tee boxes and greens were in excellent order and promoted good scoring potential. Some great dog legs on this course - we will be visiting again for sure!

Beautiful Treerific Course in Brum

Good all round course management and tee shots that really leave those tee boxes are a big key to this course. Big fast greens - stint 12- when we played yesterday apparently means that you don't just get to the greens, you have to play with good judgement and plan your approach. Make sure you hit your putts in a measure way. There are plenty of trees which make this course really tricky. There are bunkers that catch you if you miss those approach shots. I would use more iron clubs if I played it again which I hope I do. Surprisingly friendly staff for such a excellent club that has a well stocked club shop. The food was excellent and well within a fair price range. Don't do what our golf pro did and wear non white socks with your shorts or you will have to buy some white socks!

Superb

Fantastic course, well worth a visit, greens are like lightning and very true, great layout, only downside is there is a central point where about 6 tees start from, but not a problem, great course and lovely condition

Great Course & Exceptional Greens

As soon as you walk through the car park and see the course for the first time you know you're in for a treat. From the clubhouse view, the course opens up in front of you and looks extremely inviting and well manicured.
The pro in the shop was very welcoming and helped us with locker codes, pin positions and yardage markers.
Everything about the course is exceptional with flat tee boxes, manicured fairways, well raked bunkers and greens that were fast and true. I think the greens were some of the best I've ever played on to be honest. Some of the later holes we played, had just had their greens 'ironed' and were seriously quick. As previous reviewers have mentioned there are a good variety of holes with lots of dog legs and you need to think your way around the course.
We had some food in the clubhouse afterwards which was good value and again the bar staff and catering staff were friendly and helpful. It was good to see lots of people using the clubhouse and there seemed a real sense of community spirit there.

At £25 with a County Card, Walmley Golf Club is tremendous value and I hope to play it again. If I lived closer I'd be even happier to be a member there!

Very nice course well worth the visit

A warm welcome awaited us when we arrived at the club. The facilities were very good, with the starter making us very welcome and putting us at our ease. The course had seen heavy rain previous days but played very well considering. The course was a fair test of golf given this was our first time of playing. The whole group enjoyed the round. The views from the clubhouse lounge are very nice. Well worth a visit thankyou for the hospitality.

2nd visit still in outstanding condition

4* rating all day, it's not the most prestigious but it's for me a great layout other than 14th and 16th that penalise good shots with mature trees in the fairway. greens in July and today 8th Sept blemish free and smooth and quick :-) #TheBest also very receptive to good shots for me the sign of a great course. no bump and runs from 150yrds in.

Beer is always good and always a friendly welcome.
TeeTours society day £22, Tony runs a good shop :-) back in 2018 for sure. get some pairs events on Walmley I'll be back more.

Another Fantastic trip to Birmingham, excellent course

Very friendly welcome for the jubilee open (July 2017)

Practice area for wedges only, balls from pro shop if required. no separate short game area but you can chip at the range if quiet.

Course is 6600 yrds long but you need to play a lot of 22-240 yrds tee shots and shape them into area's, drivers not required on many holes. Greens fast and true with plenty of break, somtimes more than you can see :-)

Mid section of the course is a little confusing, seems to be spaghetti junction layout with 3-4 tee's very close together and criss crossing.

Clubhouse and bar excellent and again very friendly, 100% back next year and hopefully with course knowledge play a bit more solid.

So many fine courses in Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham, get them on your radar.

-1 for last 6 holes, finally go it going but all too late #TommyFleetwood
