What the club says: When Tyrrells Wood Golf Club was formed in 1924, the original course had been designed by five times Open Champion James Braid, one of the most respected and prolific course designers of his day. Improvements were also designed by Harry Colt. Although the course has undergone continuous improvement over the years, care has been taken to preserve Braid's unique approach to green and bunker design.

Tyrrells Wood is located on the edge of the North Downs and in common with much of the area has a chalk subsoil, which provides extremely good drainage. The typical downland nature of the area was transformed by the substantial tree planting programme implemented in the late 19th century, to provide a unique downland / parkland character.

Great course, very hilly

Tyrrells Wood is definitely worth a visit. Played as a members guest. The course was in a good condition despite all the rain we have had recently. The front 9 felt easier than the back 9 with a few short par 4's. The sloping fairways make the targets off the tee tighter than it looks. Nice club house and friendly members. Will definitely be coming back.

Short, hilly and tricky in places

This is an old-fashioned James Braid course, reminiscent of some of his Scottish layouts. It's a tough walk with lots of uphill and downhill holes. It is very firm and fast with lots of undulations and contours that have to be accounted for off the tee and when playing to the green. It's is not very long and you could happily go around here hardly using your driver, which is good because it is a pretty tight and compact course. Condition was pretty good and it was enjoyable to play. One criticism would be the pace of play and lack of courtesy of a small group of members I was playing behind. Playing as a single I caught up to them on the 5th hole and waited on every shot for at least 5 - 10 minutes until they mercifully walked in after 9 holes. Playing the 6th hole I had holed out just as they were walking off the adjacent 7th tee having hit three of four tee shots into trouble. Not once did they consider letting me play through. Shameful.

Always a good knock

The only thing I would say is there are lots of lies above and below your feet. Slightly muddy at the moment in a few places but we have had a load of rain, normally a very dry course.

Challenging, hilly course with some long par 4's. Greens were in good condition. Plenty of parking and a lovely club house with goof food.

Tyrrells Wood

An unusual course spread across two areas where you cross a local road three times. Quite hilly and also quite long. The winter condition of the course was good.

All good

The only negative and it is only a small one is there is lots of lies with the ball below or above you, But that is the nature of this course and the end of the day.

Great condition, greens very good

Not played it for years, great condition, even though its quite short, the greens and course design add a good degree of difficulty. Great club house and patio area, will return!

Excellent 18 hole golf course. A little tricky on the par 5's. Had a fantastic mornings golf. Staff were polite and friendly, exceptionally kept greens considering the December weather! £35 wow 10/10
