What the club says: Founded in 1899, the club and course enjoy a backdrop more reminiscent of the Swiss Alps than Central Scotland. Indeed, this was confirmed when, on 20th June 1879 while passing by train, Queen Victoria described Tillicoultry as “lying in a wooded green valley at the foot of the [Ochil] hills, reminding me of Italy and Switzerland”. The course itself is visually stunning, with magnificent views, some taxing golf and a fiercely proud reputation as a friendly welcoming club, Tillicoultry Golf Club, is a must for the keen amateur (and not so amateur) golfer.

I sometimes play Tilly when I come up from England to visit family in the area. I'm always amazed how green and lush the course is and it is in an area of great beauty. I am surprised by some of the criticisms of the layout because it is a tricky, compact course that is fun to play as a 9 x 2. There are good driving holes but you don't need to be long to score well. Accuracy is important and there are a lot of gradient changes to take into consideration. Standout holes for me are the short 6th which can punish wayward approaches severely and the 8th which is a shortish par four, but with a second shot across a burn to an elevated green, it has to be one of the toughest par fours to hit in regulation that I have encountered. It's a lovely little course!

The layout is up there with the worst in the country.. 7th and 8th hole looks like they just didn't have a clue what to do and decided to stick a flag on a hill.. greens were atrocious tractor marks around the semi.. parts of the green had no grass and just un even solid dirt. Bunkers have no sand in them and I couldn't tee off until about 1 because seniors seem to have priority in the morning

Small and tricky on places. Some untidy areas to be picky but a good test of golf.

Nice pleasant course in open parkland, not too hilly and in good condition.
Good value for money and friendly members.
