What the club says: The course, opened in 1920, boasts lush fairways surrounded by woodland, well-drained soil and subtly undulating greens. Individual challenging holes gently wind through the ancient woods dating back to the 13th Century. As you play the final hole of the 6512-yard course, the magnificence of the Palladian Thorndon Hall, site of the old clubhouse, comes into view.

Very nice course - worth a visit
Course in great condition although the greens were extremely slow. Bunkers very well maintained, fairways in good condition, tee boxes level and not cut up with divots.Well worth a visir

Served a lovely breakfast by friendly staff off to the pro shop welcomed by very helpful staff
The course layout is fantastic and was in good condition after a fair bit of rain I believe the course is over 100 years old what a great experience to play on we will definitely be going back the price was £95 each which might put a few off but you get what you pay for I suppose ????

Rough!
Ridiculous rough, not visitor friendly (no signs to show where next tee is), groundsmen strimming next to the green you are putting on and visitors have to park on rough ground, as members have the tarmac. Greens are super fast.Reviewer Rating

I played this course in a match play knock out competition at the end of May, everyone was very helpful including my competitor, the course was in outstanding condition with a superb lay out. This club as an old school feel about the place but I found it refreshing. Essex golf courses are not the best but this had a Surrey feel to it. I look forward to be able to play it again. Note as it was a competition I did not play a green fee but I would pay more than the average price to play it.Reviewer Rating

Faultless
Visited for the first time on a society. Every meal we had was top notch ! The staff in every department were eager to please . Despite heavy rain for weeks, the course played fantastically well, greens ran true, fairways still firm. Very picturesque and some holes were seriously tough. Definitely be visiting again. Thank you ThorndonReviewer Rating
