What the club says: The club was founded in 1993, on the estate of the popular Southwell Racecourse, some 2 miles from Southwell and 5 miles from the market town of Newark. The front nine holes are located in the centre of the racecourse and features our signature hole, the 7th, a straightforward par 3 - as long as you ignore the water between the tee and the island green - our equivalent to the 17th at Sawgrass!!!

Great course layout and well manicured
Great course layout and well manicured, we really enjoyed our round at Southwell GC. Very challenging with plenty of water hazards. Friendly and informative club pro and relaxed atmosphere?Reviewer Rating

What a great day for golf!!!
I have played this course only a few times before but always in the winter. I was very pleased at how the course has been maintained and played in the warmer season and it was in pretty good condition. My only gripe would be the condition of some of the greens. Very difficult to putt as bobbles everywhere (back nine much better than the front nine) meaning your golf ball will jump all over the place. Also some of the greens were very dry with grass missing. Also the cutting of the grass to the sides of the fairways was not to good leaving grass cuttings looking like a kids playing field. Im unsure as to why the tee box for the 18th is in such a poor state why hasn't this been sorted?..Such a shame to have to tee off a naff astro turf tee on the final hole. Overall though fairways were very good, i love the second cut length along every fairway..looks and plays great. A great challenge today on a very sunny day. Will defo be back and hoping for the greens to be a bit better.Reviewer Rating

Beautiful course
Southwell is a lovely, short course - first nine in the middle of the famous race course - some water and some really good holes. Back nine is very pretty and amongst woodland and fields.(Round played: May 2021 - Score: 88 Handicap: 13.9)

Greens on the mends
i had read the reviews on the course and was sceptical but thought i would have a look for myself. The course itself was in great nick. Would prefer the first cut to be a tad shorter as its very difficult to find your ball even if you stray only a foot off the fairway.
The greens have very obvious issues but look like they are being addressed. There are several greens affected and had to move my ball and 2 or 3 holes to give me a clear path to the hole. I spoke to a member on course and he advised they were better now than they were a few month previous.
Bigger disappointment was the club shop being closed, red hot and couldn't even pick up a pre round drink.
Even with the state of the greens id be happy to return

Not the best
Front 9 crammed inside the racecourse makes for very tight but bland golf holes. Very boring with the exception of a pretty island green par 3 (7th). Back 9 is woodland and very flat. Much better than the front 9. Greens were in a poor bare condition The first cut was too long and over punishing. Don't think I will hurry back just yet. Maybe the break hadn't helped staff wise. The staff we did meet were nice though.Reviewer Rating

Two courses in one!!
Two very varied 9’s. front played inside race course and second much more treelined. tricky short par 3’s and small greens main features. Course in really good condition. \\Really enjoyed the challenge, would definitely return. The pro was great!Reviewer Rating
