What the club says: McKenzie Ross's brilliant design has been complemented by an excellent Head Greenkeeper and staff, who have now had a settled period of several years together which has brought the course into tip top condition. This has been recognised by "Golf Monthly", who have included Southerness in their list of top 100 courses in Britain and Ireland each year since 1990.
This is a true Championship Links course, measuring 6728 yards from the white (Championship) tees, 6566 from the white tees, 6110 from the yellow tees and 5622 from the red tees.

Delightful Dumfries Links
Super course and a real coastal treat. A flat (ish) links which meanders away from the coast for first few holes (around a cow field) but then routes back to a fabulous 12th hole which has one of the best views you will ever encounter. A tough finish if the wind is coming off the Solway coast from 14-17 especially with the more accessible par 5 18th back to the clubhouse providing a little reward for resilience on the back 9. Go and enjoy it like we did on a calm July evening. £60 tee off for visitors, easily got round in daylight from a 550pm tee off.Reviewer Rating

Outstanding
Southerness is one of the best links courses in the British Isles, Ben&phils review whilst positive, doesn’t go far enough to explain what a quality layout this course is. It is up there with best in Scotland&GB&I without a doubt. A MUST visit for links loversReviewer Rating

We played Southerness in a texas scramble comp recently if we'd walked in the firth we couldn't get any wetter so couldn't really review the course other than I'd love to play it again in dryer conditions,if it's allowed I would recommend the Birchtree hotel in nearby Dalmeadie if you're looking for accommodation when playing southerness.Reviewer Rating

True Links Challenge
Tucked away from major conurbations this is a fantastic true golf links with all the challenges that come with it (long rough, firm ground, variable weather, etc). It’s a great links and a perfect place to experience the origins of golf. The ground is firm and the fairways clipped short so you’ll need to ’nip’ it off the surface, and if you do you will be rewarded. Southerness was very well presented with no gimmicks or fuss but a fantastically warm welcome from the staff and also the members who were teeing off before us. We played on a relatively calm day but we did get the full experience with gusty winds and short bursts of rain coming off the low mountain clouds. The greens were a pleasure to putt on and the bunkers were a treat too. If you’re up for playing links golf I’d highly recommend Southerness.Reviewer Rating

Relentless
Maybe lacks the character and variety of some other links but this is a tough, relentless, quality test of golf. Very warm welcome at the club and one to tick off your list if in the area.Reviewer Rating

Exceptional Condition for December
I played Southerness in early December having wanted to play the course for years but just not having the chance. It didnt disappoint with excellent routing and outstanding condition for the time of year. Some fabulous holes (13th was a particular favourite). Will definitely return in the summer.Reviewer Rating

Lovely classic links
Played here as a one ball, on a Wednesday morning. Met two members, one lady and one gent, who talked me through the way to go and explained anything I needed answering. The course has the classic links look with revetted faced bunkers and gorse and heather. The greens were true and putted very well. The course has five par 3s, ranging in length from 150 yds. to 200 yds., which test all clubs in the bag. The fairways are not too tight, but there is gorse and heather to protect the old girl. All members of staff were pleasant and very helpful.Reviewer Rating

Southerness Championship Links.
Absulute hidden gem, go and putt on the best greens surfaces in Scotland and possibly the UK, full fescue grass, Highest medal tees stroke rating in Scotland but very fair and picturesque with gorgeous views over the Galloway hills and the Solway Firth. Home of the Scottish Amateur match play and Scottish Amateur Stoke Play Championships every 10 years. Weekend and mid-week green fees under £100. Designed by Philip McKenzie Ross of Turnberry fame and the only Championship Links built in the second half of the 20th century in Britain. Can be a bit windy off the Solway on occasion but very mild climate off the Gulf Stream running along the Solway and rairly closed for frost.Reviewer Rating
