What the club says: Designed by James Braid, Powfoot is a championship course located on the Solway Firth, with breathtaking views across the water to the Cumbrian coast with the backdrop of the Lake District hills. A pleasant combination of both a links and parkland course, it offers panoramic views from a number of its holes.

A very well laid out course by James Braid which was in excellent condition. Fairways in great condition and excellent to play off and greens were fast and true. Lots of strong holes that needed plotting around. Pro was a great bloke, really friendly and helpful. Practice facilities with driving range. Good food, although our group all ordered breakfast and by the time we got to the front of the queue we were told we couldn't have breakfast as it was 12:03 and they stop service breakfast at 12:00! Excellent value for money, you can pay a lot more at other west coast course for less quality.

Pro-shop staff were very polite and helpful.
Golf course was in great condition, greens true. Weather on the day was strong breeze with some squally showers. Really enjoyed the round, would definitely return.
Didn't use clubhouse facilities on the day.

Powfoot a true links

Great links course with views over Solway Firth. Wind can cause problems and keep on the fairway if you can. The rough is brutal as are the gorse bushes.(Don't attempt to go looking for your ball) Course in great condition, plenty of run on the fairways and greens fair but fast.

Amazing links experience and a really really tough course, especially when the wind blows. If you are ever able to play here, do it. This course doesn’t give you anything and you work hard for a good score.

Typical Scottish links

A typical Scottish links course by the scenic coast of Dumfries. Well laid out holes and a good challenge to all standards of player. Old established clubhouse and welcoming staff. Small but nicely stocked shop. Adequate practice facilities. Most enjoyable round in very pleasant settings.

Pleasant location overlooking the solway, quiet, but a surprisingly strong golf traditional links. Very nicely laid out, very few weak holes, rivetted bunker faces and good condition fairways and greens.. someone has put a lot of effort into this course over the years.
The ancillary bits aren't quite as good. Range is shabby and couldn't get in the bar after as they had a function on (sat eve to be fair).
It's extremely remote, but in the unlikely event you are in the area it's definitely worth ticking off, it's 90% as good as more renowned Scottish links, and half the price.

Without doubt one of the best courses I've ever played. Despite the weather the course conditions were excellent, fairways drained well, turf superb for hitting off, tee boxes and greens superb. Couldn't find fault. An excellent days golf.

Played this course in September 2014. The famous wind was not blowing too hard, though ir did catch anything high, particularly drives. More links than parkland, the course provided a good day's golf, wirh greens in excellent and the fairways in moderate condition. Despite the links character, the holes are generally quite open with mainly broad fairways. I was alone and asked by two very friendly members if I wanted to play with them, which very much enhanced the overall experience.

Nice traditional links course played on good weather day. Whilst it was breezy rather than windy all holes against the wind were hard work and the course seemed to play longer than the published 5993 yards on the card. Three clubs had to be factored into most shot as you were always into or against the breeze. Greens in good condition - quite sharp and some interesting challenges. Good clubhouse and bar, plus friendly members. Definitely recommended.
