What the club says: "Murcar Link's is as fine a links course as you could wish to play" (Paul Lawrie, 1999 Open Champion) and adjoins Royal Aberdeen to its south side. With Cruden Bay a mere twenty minute car drive north, Murcar is without doubt, "a hidden gem" (Peter Alliss, TV Commentator & Former Ryder Cup Player). The three of them are a hat trick of golf courses not to be missed by the discerning golfer.
Not for the beginner or the faint hearted, Murcar Link's is a par 71 (ss 72) natural Championship links, which represents a truly challenging test of golf. To play it requires every shot in the book and if the wind is up, a few more besides!
What Golfshake says: Another of Aberdeenshire’s finest links, Murcar is laid out over unpredictable, erratic links land alongside the North Sea. Such a landscape is perfect for links golf and as early as the 3rd hole you will discover just how the designer (Archie Simpson, 1909) used this land to brilliant effect. A split fairway on different levels awaits.
The course promises tremendous variation with some blind shots, hidden putting surfaces and swaying fairways. Gorse is everywhere and while it rarely ventures too close, you will always be aware of it. A hillock at the northern end is home to three blind drives, and two blind approaches; then it’s back to the rough and tumble fairways, the humps and hollows, and a burn that will prove magnetic.
It is a short course, switching between par 69 and 71 (two par fives become par fours from the yellow tees), but with the narrow fairways, plenty of hidden dips, bountiful bunkers and the inevitable wind, Murcar presents a stern but fun test.

True Links Experience
Murcar Links is just a true links golf course. Dunes, heather, gorse, hard burnt fairways, pot bunkers to collect your ball, and fantastic greens to Putt on. What else can you ask for, nothing other than to take your A game. This is a toughie, fair but tough. Lots of challenges, a must for any Links enthusiastAlso the views from, and the food in the clubhouse are both spectacular

Tough nut to crack
Really good links course. Probably the best layout I've played in the north east of Scotland. Some tricky greens, greens are a tad slower than some areas but the mixture of tight undulating fairways and greens you must stick it's a very challenging track.

Strabathie is a great Links 9 holer
Played Strabathie 9 hole course for the first time and it's a great shortish links course that also proves challenging. The fairways and greens were well maintained and the light rough at the edge of the fairway was not too long but long enough to prove difficult to play your approach if you under club. There is a burn that runs through the course which comes into play on a few of the holes and could prove tricky depending on your club selection. Overall a good alternative, if like me, you don't always have time or inclination to play 18 holes.
