Mr John Brookes
What a great course, 9 excellent holes, some would say it's 'undulating' I would say it's hilly. Some blind holes with well placed marker posts to help you. Greens were in excellent condition considering the rain they have recently had. Some greens are very tricky and need an extra hard of pace for uphill putts and also quite small so this makes them extra challenging. Top tip for the third for new visitors......277 yards, uphill to the ridge then all downhill to the two tier green ( which is lightening fast) aim just left of the marker post, try to leave your ball on the top of the hill, you then have the green in sight and depending which tier the hole is placed determines which wedge you take for your second. Do not try to drive the green as I did, leaving my ball 12" on the top tier of the green with the hole on the lower tier. .......the putt down to the hole was high on impossible! I will share my embarrassment and admit to four putts to finally sink it! The first one didn't even reach the almost shear drop to the second tier (I was scared to death of it) third shot, second putt was literally tickled down the drop and I stood there and watched as it can we last the hole.........I'll do better the next time! Their signature hole must surely be the 9/18th. Par 3, 181 yards, severely down hill, left to right, club house on the left, free lined with OOB on the right, wind howling around, just like the 16th at New Mills or the 9/10th at Bala, easy yeah........no chance! A really great day for the four of us, we were met by the club Captain, Mr John Ryder and very well looked after, what a true gentleman he is. It was a long way for us to travel from Stockport but worth every penny, we will look to organise a weekend away for early next year and will definitely look to book to play there again. Many thanks to Mr Ryder for mAking us so very welcome and many thanks to their greenkeeper for maintaining the course in such good condition.Reviewer Rating

9 holes in the snow!
Played family ad hoc comp in Dec 2023. Course covered in snow. Temp ‘greens’ with enlarged holes. Challenging, different, great fun!Reviewer Rating

Great Fun!
I’m a sucker for old fashioned quirky golf courses and Grange Fell didn’t disappoint. A multitude of blind tee shots mean a first timer like myself is advised to take irons off the tee. The exception is the stellar third where a straight driver will probably make the green. My well hit 5 iron was left perched annoyingly a few feet short of the steep slope feeding down to the pin 100 yards below. It’s not a course for serious card and pencil golfers but for a knock while on holiday it is not to be missed. The moorland turf is excellent and the views are joyous.
I found Grange Fell a far more enjoyable course than the very dull Grange Over Sands nearby. It’s a course to out a smile on your face!
