What the club says: Glossop & District Golf Club is situated in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District, but is conveniently located within fifteen miles of Manchester. This moorland links makes demands on all aspects of your game, in particular should you miss the well protected putting surfaces. Length is not always the key to good scoring at Glossop and as a consequence is a fair challenge for all enthusiasts.

Lovely course, frustrating layout
Such a lovely setting this course, we played on a cold October 2023 Sunday morning with frost on the ground. The course cleared the greens which made it very playable and off we went as the sun rose and made for a brilliant golf day. The layout is brilliant, really quirky holes, difficult but holes you want to play again and again. Every time you tee off its a like a guessing game where the next green is and how you should have played the hole. Finish the front nine and you go around again with a different layout. I love these sorts of courses .. but .. hole 1 (also 10) creates a blockage as you have to wait until the holes been played in full (as its a par 3), then you wait for them to tee off on hole 2 which has a fairway adjacent to the first green so a wayward shot could take you out as you walk up the first. We then played hole 12 instead of hole 3 (hole 12 is really tricky but lovely). Hole 7 is wild with a straight shot then a left turn into a green which you would never spot if you did not have apps to show you. Hole 8 fairway goes across hole 2/11 tee box and thats not even the trickiest tee off, wait until you play hole 15 which means you finish before the people playing hole 6 who were in front of you. Its bonkers but what a lovely course. I imagine on a busy day if would be chaos, but if you can tolerate the waiting, its worth a visit, especially if you can get there on a gorgeous day as the views are spectacular.Reviewer Rating

Lovely Course in a Stunning Location
This isn't the longest course in the world, but it is set in a stunning location and a number of the holes will definately test you. It's basically a 9 hole course, except with 11 greens (the 5th/14th and 6th/15th are played to different greens) and a number of different tees. The tricky bit the first time you play here is knowing where you're actually going on some of the holes, especially when playing the 5th/14th and 6th/15th. The guy in the pro shop kindly pointed out to me where to go, although maybe he should have told my clubs! This isn't an easy walking course, so be prepared for a number of climbs if you're playing all 18. It is certinly worth the effort though, as the views from the top of the course are stunning.
Would I recommend playing here? If I lived nearby I think I'd want to be a member, that's how much I recommend it.

Quite open layout and not always easy to know where to go the first time round although the pro was very helpful and tried to explain all the holes.
