What the club says: Frilford Heath Golf Club has three 18 hole courses offering a range of delights. With almost a hundred years of golf design heritage, players can choose a classic or modern challenge as they see fit. The Red Course was laid out in 1908 by five times Open champion JH Taylor. At over 6,800 yards, the Red course will be a test of any golfer’s skills. The Green Course
may be the shortest, at just over 6,000 yards, but playing to a stiff par of 69, it is no pushover. The Blue Course was opened in 1994, and was designed by Simon Gidman. The course has a more modern, open look, with a number of water hazards threatening, notably on the early holes.

The wonderful Red course
I played 36 holes at Frilford Heath on 18th March 2025 as part of a fourball, with 18 on the Red course in the morning and 18 on the Blue course in the afternoon. I'm going to review the red course only here.Firstly, I was second to arrive at the course in the morning, to be warmly greeted by a young man in the pro shop who welcomed me and provided bag tags, pin locations and all the necessary information for our day ahead. There was some work going on in the clubhouse so navigating my way around the locker rooms and bar area was a little tricky, and they could possibly do with some more internal signposting here. the facilities in the clubhouse are spot on though, with ample changing room space and a large, relaxing bar area where we were served breakfast baps, teas and coffees, before heading to the putting green to get warm for our morning round. The greens were hollow tines a couple of weeks ago but were firm and true, despite having a little bit of residual sand on the surface due to the unseasonably dry weather we've had recently.
The course itself was a delight to play, offering a challenge despite mainly being off the forward tees to protect the main teeing areas for the season ahead. The holes were varied and required all sorts of shot shapes and manipulation to access the tricky pin positions. Drainage was excellent across the course and the greens were fast and true. There were still a few areas around the edges where work was being completed, but nothing to detract from our experience. Pace of play was good, completing our round in just under four hours, leaving us plenty of time before our afternoon tee time on the Blue course (which is a long way behind the Red in almost all areas).
Delightful lunch and overall the day was superb, coupled with the cloudless skies and decent golf played across our group.
Can't wait to return soon!

Nice winter track but be prepared to wait!
A buddy and I recently visited Frilford Heath as we were looking for somewhere playable in mid winter (12/01/2024). The club house and Pro Shop are both very nice and all the staff were very friendly and polite. The red course was in great condition considering all the rain of late and we all found the course a good challenge and would certainly recommend the mid week winter deal were you get a bacon butty and hot drink thrown in for £55. Now, our group did have a few gripes - Firstly, although we had been given a tee time, there is no tee times as such! This means the 1st tee had 15 to 20 people or stood in the freezing cold waiting to tee off, this obviously is not ideal in the depths of winter and a waste of peoples time getting there for an allocated time, given when booking, as this time means nothing in reality! We actually arrived at the 1st 15 minutes prior to out slot and tee'd off 15 minutes late, so had to stand around watching other go off in the cold! Also, the on course signage is poor and it is easy to get onto the wrong course, as there are 3, mid round. Finally there is a lack of bins on tee's, only a silly gripe but as this is such a nice course and venue its something we felt let it down. That said, we would like to revisit in the summer.Reviewer Rating

Spectacular
Went as a society and played the Red and Green courses and thoroughly enjoyed our day. From the moment we arrived it looked amazing. The two courses were spectacular, challenging and beautifully laid out. The red more difficult with brutal rough if you went offline, plot your way round. The green a little easier and shorter but still a test. Brilliant greens and tee boxes and fair test between the two. The chaps in the golf shop friendly and helpful. The staff serving the food and drinks always with a smile were a delight and credit to the golf club. The food delicious. Could have some tee directions on the red but still Highly recommended.Reviewer Rating

LOVED IT
From the moment I arrived, it oused class. Well kept gardens around the club, pro shop team very good, bar staff very attentive. Locker rooms clean and tidy, maybe next on the list for an upgrade. Food and beverage was excellent and well served. Let’s get to the course, we played the Blue, every hole different and felt I was back playing at Ganton, great bunkering. Fairways still showed signs of last summers heat wave. The green smooth true and fast 10.5 to 11. going back soon to play the red!!Reviewer Rating
