What the club says: This course, designed by the internationally renowned Donald Steel is set along the River Crane. It features the contours and lakes of the rolling countryside and is named after the majestic river, which comes into play on many of the holes. The course was opened for play in 1992 and the tricky parkland layout is less than a 30-minute drive from the centre of Bournemouth encompassing wonderful features of the surrounding Dorset countryside.

Disappointing
Played the 9 hole Woodland course and was very disappointed. There was no map of the course available so we had to assume where the green was on the longer holes. A number of the tees had artificial grass with no real option to play from real grass. The fairways were not close mown so swallowed balls and if you missed a fairway it was awfully long! The greens were in a poor condition with a lot of sand in bald patches. If the course had been maintained better it would have been very enjoyable, but we won't be going back.Reviewer Rating

Wide open course, enjoyable
Recent annual maintenance on greens so not a good time to give an assessment. Otherwise well maintained, although semi-rough a bit thick in places. I should imagine they would shortly cut fairways shorter soon (but their green maintenance and spurt in grass growing means they could do with another cut). But good course.Reviewer Rating

Worth a visit
Well maintained course, not too challenging. Good for a mid-handicapper. Very welcoming and good food selection.Reviewer Rating

Greens and tees excellent
Understandably, muddy in places with extreme wet weather over the last month, but greens were excellent.Reviewer Rating

Disappointing
Very slow pace of play two hours thirty for nine holes as a three ball. Main problem is that the grass is not properly layered off the fairway. The ball would just roll off the fairway and you are looking to find it.Reviewer Rating

Nice solid course
A nice gentle round with the back nine making you think a little about shot selection. Greens are generally quite hilly which makes them harder to read and to keep 2 putting . We played at 3:30 and had a number of 1 & 2 balls teeing off when they wanted so caused a lot of bunching up and play through which was marginally annoying.overall a nice solid course though that I would definitely play againReviewer Rating

Good beginners course in nice setting
Undulating and nice fairways. Ditches border the fairways so beware. Later holes are a bit short but you need to be accurate if you want to get par.Reviewer Rating
