What the club says: A combination of stunning coastal views, centuries of history and hugely enjoyable golf is what makes Balcomie Links one of Scotland’s most finely polished, golfing gems.
This traditional, classic links course was laid out by the old master himself, Tom Morris, and opened in 1895. Balcomie has the unusual combination of three par fives, six par threes and nine par fours, producing a tough par of 69.

A wee cracker
Having played the Craighead course a few years ago we finally had the chance of the Balcomie on our visit this year. Did not disappoint. Some magic holes and some tough ones (4th and 5th if I remember rightly over the bay, we had a calm day but when windy those are beasts. 13 and 14 are two lovely par 3's on the way back in.Reviewer Rating

Marmite
Had a mixed view in our group after playing for the first time - lots of par 3s make it feel a bit 'pitch and putt' however the wind blew creating a stern challenge overall, especially when having to take on the water in the front 9. Friendly welcome in the pro shop and club house...?.you'll have to make your own minds up....Reviewer Rating

Lovely
Great course, we played the Craighead but don't think it matters as they are both fantastic. Great condition and really enjoyed the whole day.Would love to return to play the other course which may be a bit better going by the member comments.

Great course, welcoming staff
Very nicely presented courses, great staff, traditional club house with a long heritage. Balcomie is very open but I really enjoyed it and recommend it and Craighead. Playing both in a day was very enjoyable. Gorgeous sea viewsReviewer Rating

Quirky, testing, fun
Surrounded by the likes of St Andrews and Kingsbarnes, Crail is a little bit different. It's a older, narrower course and gives perhaps a more genuine insight into a true Scottish member's club compared to it's near neighbours. When we played it the haar (fog) moved in reducing visibility to less than 100 yards but that's far from normal. It was still a lovely walk.(Round played: May 2018 - Score: 96 Handicap: 17.4)
