Great Par3 18 hole course
I have played Ampfield twice now and enjoyed both of my rounds. For ?12 - ?17 this is great value for money. The clubhouse is well situated with a view over most of the course and a lovely terrace for the summer. There is a bar, coffee and cake and I'd expect other food but no pro shop. Seems to be a coaching barn / sim but have not seen inside it. A small putting/chipping green sits between the clubhouse and 18th green and there is a hitting net near the 1st tee but no separate range. The course is quite open bar the boundaries of the course which can often run tight to the fairways and give little room for error (holes 2 and 15 particularly). The holes in the center of the course are more forgiving and any error usually find you on another fairway. It is tight, and I would imagine when busy that occupied tees cause delays in hitting into the preceding green unless you are super-confident. Certainly there are several holes where you need to wait for tees to clear by instruction. I have played mid-day and early afternoon on weekdays when you might expect there to be gaps in the tee times and a less packed course.
Course condition in June and July have been good with greens in good condition, as were the tee boxes and fairways.
Bunkers make even some of the shorter holes challenging often protecting front of greens, as well as sides. Several of them have high and steep faces that require skill and thought to escape. A couple of the holes have mature trees to play over or under to reach the green to further challenge your golfing IQ.
