What the club says: This fascinating and challenging little course owes much of its appeal to its unusual background.

Some Eighteen years ago, Mike Jackson, who farms the land, became fascinated by golf and after a summer of driving balls up his main cow pasture, he had the idea of creating a nine-hole course on some uneven rough grazing land littered with boulders, gorse bushes and bracken.

An excellent 9 hole very hilly course with fabulous views all the way to Morecombe Bay. It is well kept and the owners are very friendly. This is a course to carry or to use a battery trolley only and it is not for the faint hearted. There are many challenges to the course, even when it has to be played twice for 18 holes. The course would benefit from additional signage and the way to the farm house to pay the green fee. I have played it a number of times and it never fails to delight. There are no facilities. Come and play a round and you will not be disappointed.

Thoroughly enjoyed our round at Beckside GC, views absolutely outstanding and would put it on our list to play again. Only thing that needs attention is the signage around the course, if it hadn’t been for a couple of members who helped us out I think we would have still been looking for the next tee,
However, a most enjoyable experience.

Interesting course but tee's to close to greens and crossing of fairways meant we had far to many close calls and fearing getting hit by golf balls constantly, maybe it was just the day we chose but it was far to busy.

Well kept with amazing views and a cheap price (now £15 for 9-18 holes). It's a 9 hole course, steep in places, with some alternative tees for the second 9 if you play it. No bunkers (local planning rules) and no club house (you pay at a farm house about 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the course, but a good challenge.

What an amazing course, fantastic views and really well kept plus really friendly people. As others have said the hills are challenging and make it one of a kind. Thank you to the people who make this course possible, it was a lovely afternoon

Lovely course run by lovely people

Lovely course that far exceeded my expectations. Whilst only 9 holes, they are played twice with a variety of tees and an extra green. Any one that is a member of a club, or regularly plays 18 holes club courses will not be disappointed. £10 is too cheap for this course (Mrs Jackson explained why so little) so I encourage everyone to pay extra to reflect the true value of the course, and repay the Jacksons for their hard work and generosity. I recommend an extra £10 if you can and £5 if you can't.
Maintained by none other than Michael Jackson, THIS IS NOT A HACKER'S COURSE.
Thank you to the Jacksons

Came across this golf course just by chance, what a little gem.
The day we played it was slightly overcast giving great views of the surrounding countryside.
The course was in excellent condition.
Although mainly par 3 holes, the hills made it quite challenging.
I would highly recommend anybody passing this area take up the challenge and have a game, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Simply Gorgeous

There's no clubhouse, just a car park and a 9 hole golf course, but what a golf course it is. It's not long, but it is hilly with small greens, and not as easy as the yardages suggests. For a one guy operation the course is in very good condition, and you can't fault the greens, tees or fairways. The course is a bargain at £10 a round (£15 for a day ticket), but throw in the stunning views and you have an absolute peach of a course for the money. Mr Jackson, I applaud your efforts.

Intriguing, Fiendish, BEAUTIFUL!!

Beckside is one of those rare courses you happen upon by accident that proves to be something genuinely special.
Built by the owner, a farmer called Michael Jackson (!) around 25 years ago, the course is carved out of a natural Lake District hillside in 2 roughly triangular shapes - their points meeting in the middle. 6 hols in bottom triangle / 3 holes in top.
The longest hole is only 340 and there are 9 par 3s and 9 par 4s but don't let that deceive you. Firstly you're playing on seriously steep hillsides and secondly there is the wind to factor in. A full drive might only travel 200 yards before hitting the hillside and stopping dead.
There are no bunkers (Lake District planning conditions) yet the greens are in really good condition. Some are flat but most are fiendishly contoured, making for some fun putting!
Michael and another family member upkeep the course themselves with all the love and devotion of a mad keen golfer. There is no clubhouse (hence the lower rating scores from some reviewers) and you pay at the farm house a mile or so down the lane. It's almost an honesty system!
I have played many smaller course around the world and this is right up there in my top 3 without a shadow of doubt. It helps to play round in 8 over off a 19 HC but it was just one of those great days of golf.
I'll play Beckside everytime I visit the Lakes and recommend you do too!

Just hope your fit as the hills are a killer after 18 holes. Challenging course Par 3 & 4 holes only, great views well worth the £10 fee. Finished up in the 19th hole Sun Pub as directed.
