In need of some TLC
The course is in poor condition. The rough encroaches the fairways on the first eighth and ninth holes so much that it is almost impossible for those whose drives are short (such us over 70s) to clear it. The ditches are overgrown and any ball entering the rough or a ditch is almost impossible to find, let alone play. The fairways were recently sprayed to get rid of daisies; unfortunately a tractor was used for the spraying which has left indented tread marks on all the fairways which affect the bounce and run of the ball.Reviewer Rating

Bandit Trophy 2023 @ Ash Valley
18 of us descended on this rural course plays a few years back by about a third of the group. Six groups in all, welcomed by Coffee and Bacon Rolls and 18 holecourse for £35.Conditions were dry but the course had a lot of residual water and was very soft underfoot. Playing off the yellows at over 6400 yards so the course was long, especially for the high handicappers e.g. majority.
The course layout was fairly simplistic and some would say basic and fairly boring.
I found it challenging but playable and the pars threes were difficult overall at over 160 yards each, especially in windy cold conditions.
Overall a enjoyable experience, scoring was pretty low overall with the winner scoring 31 off of 13. I finished second with 29 (off of 17).
I would go back but would love to play it in dry conditions which would be a totally different challenge.

Unpretentious.
A throwback to the 1930s and that suits me nicely. A long and physically demanding course - oxygen or a buggy may be needed on the second hole (SI1). Wide fairways, but if you enter the long rough in the summer you had better take a packed lunch as you may be there for a long time! If you like large, flat greens, this may not be the place for you.Reviewer Rating

Good value for money
The course was in good condition, fairways were good. Greens not too bad at all, the first 2-3 greens were not great but they got better after that. The tees are poor and need work but overall value for money was very good. The members on the course when I played all let me play through and were very friendly and I managed to do 18 on my own in 2hrs 20 mins! The course is a par 71 but the 18 is a long and tough par-4. It would be great if they pushed the tee back a little and made it a par-5. (Par-72 overall).Reviewer Rating

New home
Joined as fareway after leaving another club who standards are dropping. Lovely little practice course which offers good distances. Main course a challenge but a nice challenge long hilly but fun . Greens in great condition just a bit fast at the moment. All in all good value for money here especially the food and service in the clubhouse is great made us feel so welcome.Reviewer Rating

Nice views and some challenging holes
My friend and I last played at Ash Valley in 2016 and we decided to try it again in November 2021. We have always regarded it as a physically challenging course and so it proved again. There are lots of ups and downs to the course with the uphill holes particularly challenging. It's a fairly long course too: 6469 off the yellows. The course is reasonably maintained: the fairways are well kept; the greens are interesting with pronounced slopes on many of them; the bunkers are not maintained well, however, though we did manage to avoid going into any of them! The club seems more organised than when we last played there: there is an online booking system now; food is served (we had to go to the pub down the road before!) and this was very good. The welcome from the staff in the clubhouse was good and we both enjoyed our round.
