What the club says: Designed by the renowned golf architect Dave Thomas, creator of The Belfry, this par 73 course presents a challenge, and includes some of the Scottish Borders' most attractive scenery. Making the most of wood, park and river, Cardrona has something for every golfer. Although remarkably flat, given the rolling hillsides around you, there are plenty of wooded and sandy surprises to keep you on your spikes!

Following days of rain the course was in a poor condition with a number of fairways soaking, muddy footpaths and generally unpleasant conditions underfoot. On another day or at any other course the conditions would have been sufficient for the course to be closed. the distance between tees is lengthy and for 'older' golfers there is just too much walking. Buggies however not available or sensible in such conditions. Additionally playing off mats should have been mandatory.

Excellent Value
Having read some of the reviews, we were a little trepidatious of what we'd find. We needn't have worried. The course and green were in excellent condition! We'll be back!Reviewer Rating

Another enjoyable day at Cardrona
Back at Cardrona for another round with my son. Looked after well by Mark this time who was very welcoming. The course itself continues to improve with new sand in all the bunkers ! The greens which were always an issue in the past are almost back to how they should be and with a little more time will compliment the rest of this beautiful course set up. We will be back !!Reviewer Rating

Coming back
Heard the greens were bad and with only one or two exceptions they are.Fairways, tees and bunkers are fine. The thick rough is a nightmare and I lost many balls as my driving fell apart. Not many on and good pace of play!

Getting There
The greens on the course suffered badly following an irrigation failure last year but they are getting there albeit some slower than others. Some remain a "hit and hope" but others are getting smoother. There is also evidence of investment in the bunker management with fresh white sand waiting to be raked into place. The rest of the course is in good condition and by the end of May i would predict that the course will be back to its former self.Reviewer Rating

Suffering
Having been a regular visitor to Cardrona for a long time I decided to pay it another visit last week, taking a friend down for their first visit.Arriving at the course it looked as good as usual with the practice range in good condition. Whilst waiting on the pro shop to open we got talking to a couple of members who told us the course had gone downhill recently due to an issue during the summer where something went wrong with the greens not being watered correctly. We took this to expect greens that maybe didn't run as true as usual. Unfortunately this was far from the reality. While the tee boxes and fairways were in great condition for the time of year the greens were absolutely horrendous. It appears all the grass on them died during the summer and its just starting to grow back now. Unfortunately this is happening sporadically across the greens making them absolutely impossible to putt on. Every single attempt at a putt would hop and skip all the way to the hole. Sometimes bouncing left and right along the way. There were actually some putts that bounced up in the air as they made their way towards the hole. The worst one jumped at least 4 inches in the air. This most be devastating for the members as the greens used to be fantastic. One positive was the reaction of the guy in the pro shop. When we told him how bad they were and that we'd driven for over an hour to get there he offered to refund our green fees which at least demonstrated the customer service side of things was as good as ever. He explained they'd got a load of new machines and work would be starting soon to get them back in good condition for next season. Being honest the best thing they could do would be to either close the course entirely to give the greens time to grow and recover or move to full winter greens. It would be easier to putt on the fairways at the moment anyway. I really wish the staff at Cardrona all the best and hope the course gets back to its former glory as it was a tremendous course in the past and always one of my favourites

Great visit to the championship course at Cardrona
Been a few years since last visited the course but glad I persisted and came back. The greens were brown and broken in a few places but we firm and fast. The course was well maintained and with very few divots. The staff have done well to maintain it over the forced closure. I recalled the challenges from my last visit and the course presented me with equal difficulty this time round. The was a even spread of players and despite being on foot I was not chased down by any two ball buggie pairing. Ready for another round tomorrow.Reviewer Rating

Excellent test
This is a must play course, unfortunately at the present time the greens are not in very good condition, very burnt. However they do run true if a trifle slickReviewer Rating

Not as bad as people say, but a bit repetitive
Tends to be moist, not surprising given its location. Greens not very healthy, though playing surprisingly well- holding yet not too slow. , Bunkers currently atrocious- may be purely a covid phenomenon. Number 1 rough is more like no2, but the balk seems to sit up ok. deep rough is jungle, but there?s so much space before you reach it, you shouldn't really be there!Reviewer Rating
