We are this week assessing the golf betting opportunities in the field for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, taking place at Plantation Course at Kapalua, Hawaii.
Plantation course is a 7,411 yard par 73 and ranked as the 48th most difficult course out of 49 on tour in 2012. This event is made up of 30 PGA Tour winners from 2013, and as you can see from the ease of the course, it is going to be a birdie-fest with the winner will needing to shoot something in the region of -22. At 7,400+ yards driving distance is useful here, but really it’s all about making eagles and birdies. While we have avoided the top two in the betting (Scott/Kuchar) we think that the winner will be a consistently low scorer and therefore quite well fancied.
Players to watch...
Harris English (22/1) in 2014 ranks 2nd for scoring average, 20th for birdie average and 46th for eagles.
Chris Kirk (33/1) in 2014 ranks 5th for scoring average, 35th for birdie average and 31st for driving distance.
Zach Johnson (14/1) in 2014 ranks 7th for scoring average and 46th for eagles
Jordan Spieth (22/1) finished the 2013 season ranking 9th for scoring average, 14th for birdie average and 4th for eagles.
Dustin Johnson (9/1) so far this season has played one won one and he arrives here as defending champion. In the 2013
season he ranked 23rd for scoring average, 26th for birdie average, 1st for eagles and 2nd for driving distance.
