Derby Students set to visit 'Home of English Golf'
Students attending the Performance Golf Academy Derby education and player training programme are due to make a visit to “the home of English golf”, Woodhall Spa.
The Derby College students will make the trip to Lincolnshire in early March to compete in the British Colleges Sport Open Golf Championship. The event will take place at the National Golf Centre Woodhall Spa on 12th and 13th March 2013.
The event will see students from colleges across the U.K. compete in both team and individual events played over 2 rounds on the Bracken and world famous Hotchkin championship courses.
The students will arrive in Woodhall Spa on Monday 11th March for a practice round on prior to the event commencing on Tuesday 12th.
Performance Golf Academy Derby programme director Nigel Furniss explained; “This will be a great experience for our academy members to visit “the home of English golf” at Woodhall Spa and compete in a national event. I know the students are really looking forward to the opportunity to play over the courses at the National Golf Centre and the challenges it will present. Competing in an event of this stature fulfils our aims at the academy to present the students with opportunities to play in major national fixtures over 1st class golf courses.”
Speaking on behalf of the students, Derby College Golf Team Captain Greg Tickell commented; “We are all excited by the chance to visit “the home of English golf” and play over a their great courses. This will be our first major event of 2013, we have recently been away in Spain for a Warm Weather Training camp in preparation and are looking for a positive outcome”.
