Netflix Planning to Livestream Celebrity Golf Event
Streaming giants Netflix are reportedly in talks to livestream a celebrity golf tournament later this year, becoming the first live sporting broadcast on the service should it come to fruition.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that the event would bring together professional golfers alongside leading names from Formula One for a date that is being preliminary scheduled for the autumn.
Netflix has made significant gains in sporting documentaries, namely Drive to Survive (about F1) and Full Swing - released earlier in 2023 and following a tumultuous period on the PGA Tour.
This event would bring together personalities from each of those massively successful shows that have both been commissioned for future seasons (the sixth for Drive to Survive and second for Full Swing).
Amazon and Apple TV+ (competitors of Netflix) have established themselves in the sporting arena, broadcasting live events alongside their staple of films and dramatic television, with Netflix now seeing this as the perfect opportunity to move into that area themselves.

Celebrity golf on TV is a concept that goes back decades (who can forget Peter Aliss hosting Pro-Celebrity Golf in the 1970s and 80s), but this has the potential to launch that principle into the 21st century on another level entirely.
