It's Time to Thank a Golf Course Greenkeeper
There are no more invaluable figures in golf than greenkeepers, who work tirelessly each day to present the courses that we play.
Starting in the early hours of the morning when most of us are still sleeping soundly (probably dreaming of our next round), greenkeepers contest with the elements to ensure that the condition of the tees, fairways and greens reflect that of our snoozy fantasies.
But it can be a thankless task, as many of us have been guilty of only noticing when surfaces aren't immaculate or have been damaged by the complexities of the climate that impact grasses daily.
Putting that right, BIGGA, the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association, in conjunction with other global greenkeeper and course superintendent groups, is launching a 'Thank a Greenkeeper Day' next Tuesday, 13th September.
In the past, the hashtag #ThankAGreenkeeper has trended in the top ten of UK topics throughout the day, something encouraged by celebrity endorsements that has resulted in millions of social media impressions.
So, next Tuesday, why not post a photo of your favourite course (using the hashtag) and acknowledge those greenkeepers and staff who make it all possible.
