Vandals Attack Yet Another Golf Course
Sadly, this has been a topic that we've covered repeatedly in recent times, as vandals have routinely targeted golf courses throughout the UK.
There is no corner of the land that has been untouched by this menace, with Holywell Golf Club in Wales just the latest victim, with the course having been attacked on several occasions in recent days.
Posting on Facebook, the club, which is Highly Recommended on Golfshake, stated: "Holywell Golf Club have experienced malicious/criminal damage to our greens over the past number of days.
"On Saturday evening (10th August) damage was caused to the 3rd green and Monday evening (12th August) further damage to the 7th green. More concerning is the damage to the 7th green involving the use of a motorcycle.
"These instances have been reported to the police.
"What is really concerning is the use of a motorcycle, if the motorcycle spooks our woolly friends on the common and they make a bolt for it and end up on the local roads, they could be endangering people’s lives, and this would represent a sad loss of livestock for our community.
"If anyone has any information regarding the culprits, please contact Holywell Golf Club or Brynford Community Council. Please share to any other groups or individuals who may be able to help."
This year alone, we have covered damage that has been inflicted on Gotts Park in Leeds, Meyrick Park, Knighton Heath, and Lickey Hills in Birmingham. Just ahead of The 152nd Open at Royal Troon, nearby Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club was vandalised when visitor numbers were expected to peak.
These incidents have implications for the playability of courses, financial repercussions, and perhaps more than all, they impact the incredible work done by greenkeepers at these clubs.
It's an ongoing concern for any course - and we can only hope that procescutions and tangible deterrents follow to ensure that we see less of these occurrences going forward.
