10 Picks to Win The Open 2024
It's time for The 152nd Open at Royal Troon, which brings together the best players on the planet for the final men's major championship of the season. But who is most likely to get their hands on the Claret Jug on Sunday? Golfshake's Derek Clements has shared ten picks to win.
Collin Morikawa
Fantastic iron player who has already proved he has the game to win on a links courses. Has emerged from a slump and is ready for his third major win - and his second Open Championship. A class act.
Bryson DeChambeau
Has had a memorable year in the majors to date, having finished second at the US PGA before going one better at Pinehurst. Has won an army of new fans in 2024 by engaging with the galleries.
Xander Schauffele
The American is a top-five machine who seems contend every time he tees it up. Now a major champion and bursting with confidence. Sneaky long, he has a fabulous short game and a wonderful temperament.
Robert MacIntyre
Would there be a more popular winner? It would be a dream come true if the Scot were to win in front of a home gallery. And having now won on the PGA Tour he is bursting with self-belief - assuming he recovers in time from his celebrations after securing the Scottish Open! A sublime putter.
Ludvig Aberg
It is hard to believe that this is still only his fourth major but has proved beyond doubt that he absolutely belongs at this level. A certain major winner in waiting - and this just might be his week.
Rory McIlroy
It is impossible to know what on earth will be going through McIlroy’s mind should he get himself in a position to win. He is carrying a LOT of scar tissue but will be cheered every inch of the way.
Min Woo Lee
If you are looking for an outsider you could an awful lot worse than having a flutter on Lee, who celebrates his 26th birthday later this month. A four time winner, he finished in a tie for fifth at the US Open in 2023.
Tyrrell Hatton
There is never a dull moment when Hatton is on the course. He played well at the US Open and has won on the LIV Tour but the course will test his patience to the limit. Always entertaining to watch.
Viktor Hovland
Nobody will ever understand why, having enjoyed a stellar season in 2023, Hovland chose to make swing changes. But common sense has prevailed and he has gone back to what he knows best. His game is made for links courses.
Shane Lowry
Has been there and done that. Lowry’s game is made for links golf. His greatest strength is his short game - there are few better from 100 yards and in. Wonderful putter who takes it all in his stride.
