What the club says: Welcome to Westview Golf Club, a challenging, semi-private 27 hole course, located 30 minutes north of Toronto.

Westview offers three scenic nines, The Homestead, The Middle and The Lakeland. Each of the nines at Westview offers the golfer a different challenge. The Homestead, an easier walk, offers a variety of golf holes, including our signature 403 yard par four fifth. The Middle nine incurs many elevation changes which result in difficult approach shots to well-guarded greens. The Lakeland is cut through the Westview forest and forces golfers to execute some of the most difficult tee shots in the GTA.

Pin placements are ****!

I played at 4:00, Friday, July 26th on the Lakeside and Middle nines.  I usually play decent courses, such as St. Andrews, Mill Run, or Redcrest.  I am a member in St. Andrews men's league.  I used to be an 8 handicap before an injury that made me stop playing for about 15 years, and am now about a 15.  I say this so that you know that I am not a player that can't appreciate a challenge.  I took a couple of friends here to show off your course because I love the elevation changes, and mature trees.  Unfortunately, the round was ruined by the ridiculous pin placements.Examples:Number 9, Lakeside was only 7 feet from the edge of the green, on a steep side slope.  This leaves no room to land a ball and be below the pin.Number 8, Lakeside was so close to the steep slope dropping off of the green that a ball moving slow enough that you would expect it to stop within 18 inches of the pin on flat ground would fall off of the green completely and roll down the fairway 15 feet. This seemed to be the norm during the round.  Virtually all of the placements were in the middle of steep slopes, and stupidly close to the edge of the green.  It is the norm that there is an area of around 2 feet around a cup placement that is relatively flat that allows a player to stop the ball without the ball running off of the entire green and down the fairway.  Pins should not be put on a slope that causes 90 degree turns in the ball trajectory very close to the pin.  Breaks of that nature should be a distance away from the cup.Three putts often seemed like a wonderful score. You do not see that extreme a placement in the PGA.  It does not make for a "challenging" round that one can enjoy, it makes an exercise in frustration.  I had the full intention of repurchasing another 10 pack of rounds until I finished this round.  Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case.  I have had previous rounds where the holes were similarly placed.  I have no intention of purchasing another 10 pack.  If it were not for the fact that I had friends with me, I would have asked for a refund after nine holes for the unused portion, and left the course.People with a negative handicap may enjoy challenges of this nature, but I can guarantee that the average Joe does not.

Hard rock fairways!

I was quickly reminded of why I haven't played this course in 10 years: rock hard fairways and little to no marshalling. The greens were aerated, which we weren't given notice of.
