What the club says: This is a spectacular course designed by the legendary architect Pepe Gancedo and features breathtaking views on every hole. The course meanders through a mountain valley, with ravines and gullies, winding streams, raised tees and plateau fairways to create a truly unique track. You'll need a cool head if you're to shoot a low score and with pretty lenient local rules, fortune definitely favours the brave!

Well we were very surprised and disappointed by how much the course has deteriorated since 2009. Fairways needed cutting, greens were almost unplayable, tee markers and flags were missing! On one fairway someone had even put up a tent and was camping out - an unexpected hazard my mate Dave had to hit a wedge over!!
We were the only golfers out on the course throughout our time there and I'm not surprised, considering the poor experience we had. We only found one buggy which was in a hedge with wheels missing and covered in rust. Come on Monte Mayor, sort it out! By the time we finished our round 5 hours later we still hadn't seen any course rangers and the clubhouse was still closed, so we couldn't pay or have our usual post-round pints.
In conclusion, Monte Mayor GC management need to take a hard look. If the course and service don't improve golfers will stop playing here. Our 2013 experience was nothing like the day we had in 2009. We do not plan to return!

Believe is was due to be auctioned in Sept 2012 but have not been able to find any news. Why do I want news on this course? When open, it is simply stunning. Difficult but stunning.
If, and I hope it does, Mone Mayor re-opens it is a must play course. You wlil need plenty of balls and I have heard people describe it as unfair. If you miss the fairway, wave your ball bye bye.
Worth playing once to make your own mind up. Stunning views, great location, challenging holes. Favourite course on the whole coast.
Bad news is that walking the course in September, the fairways are parched, weeds are starting to grow and wild boar have destroyed many of the fairways. Even is someone buys this course now, it will take a minimum of 12 months to be in a fit state to re-open.
Fingers crossed!!!!!!!

If you hit the ball straight you make things much easier, anything more than 4 or 5 yards off the fairway and you can forget having anything other that a chip back onto the fairway. Lateral water hazards om a lot of holes to spped up play otherwise some would be hitting provisional after provisional from the tee.
You need to practice you putting here as the greens are some of the best ive ever seen - none are flat, in superb condition - with wicked run off areas + slopes if you are too agressive with the approach.
I scored 31 off 14 which was the winning score of our group of 6 (lowest 19 points - with two 28 hcprs in the group) brearing in mind the conditions there are good scores out there IF you hit straight and read the putts well.
We finished our round at 7.45 pm and the club house + pro shop were closed!! - no food or drinks available which was incredibly dissapointing - there was no-one there to advise us of the nearest place to get anything!
If you are in Spain you must play this course......

This is one of rare courses that is both pleasing to the eye and a joy to play - That is, if you are ON FORM. Very accurate driving is required, some say this target golf and they are not wrong.
Visit, relax (swing easy) and enjoy.
