What the club says: Built over 73 hectares. The course is immersed in a pine tree forest with magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Beach. The Course has 3 different 18-hole options for three different types of game:
The Blue Course is aimed at players with a low handicap.
The Green Course combines length with precision. It is idea for intermediate handicaps.
The Yellow Course is easier and perfect for high handicaps.

Interesting 27 hole layout
27 holes laid out in three loops of 9 named Blue, Yellow and Green. The course belongs to Double Tree by Hilton hotel. This was my first visit, although a number of our party (41 strong) had stayed and played here before. Just on the hotel, the food has improved apparently from previous visits by others in our group. The pro-shop and accompanying catering are across the road from the hotel, and managed separately, and the food was very good, although service seemed a bit disorganised with different staff for drink and others for food, and none of them knowing what the others were doing! The pro shop had some nice stuff, but disappointingly did not have ball markers, pitch repairers or anything you could buy as a memento.Moving to the course(s):
The Blue course seemed to be the most difficult, and was certainly hardest to walk with many steep paths to negotiate between holes. This course starts with a dogleg left par 4, where driver will probably be too much club with water straight ahead/right, and OOB on the left to the corner. This is followed by a par 3 over water, then a par 4 with a left to right sloping fairway uphill to a flattish green. Then a steep uphill walk to the 4th which is a very short but awkward par 5 which it took me all week to work out how to play as it has a deep dip in the middle. Hint ? lay up short of the dip, second shot over the dip without taking on the turn to the left. Will leave a very short chip/pitch onto the green. There is also a par 5 (the 7th) which has a ravine across the middle. Will be reachable in two for longer hitters so long as you don't put it in the ravine off the tee!
The Yellow course starts off with alternating par 5s and par 3s, and finishes with three par 4s. Some are also awkward if you have not played them before, as there are places where there are hidden ditches. Interesting enough holes, but slightly easier than the Blue.
Lastly the Green course is probably the easiest, although again some straight hitting between houses needed, as with most resort courses. This course starts behind the hotel, across the road from the clubhouse.
All three courses had good greens, albeit a little on the slow side when we played, but the courses were very busy as the hotel was full, so this was probably intentional. Fairways looked and played well. Tees were a little untidy in places, but certainly adequate. Bunkers looked better than they played, as the sand underneath was more solid than on top. My experience was also that the greens were quite hard, so stopping the ball was not always easy.

Beautiful spanish set up
A brilliant beautiful spanish set up. Fantastic 3 loops of 9 all very tricky in their own right, tight fairways, tree lined, water everywhere, everything to make you think. Condition was superb, clubhouse, hospitality, food, hotel and accomodation all excellent. Would highly recommend and return. Enjoy the experience and don't worry about low scores.(Round played: Apr 2019 - Score: 103 Handicap: 17.1)

Have only just found the score cards for the rounds my wife and I played at Islantilla last Septemer (2015). We both had a great time there. We were lucky in that we managed to play all 3 of the nine hole courses. I say lucky as one of the courses, holes 10 to 18, closed the day after we played it. This happens a lot in Spain in September so it came as no surprise. The courses are generally in very good condition, some of the greens suffer from being in the shade and some of the holes are a bit contrived. If I have any complaint is that some of the fairways are over watered and your ball can sometimes stop dead in the wet, it also makes buggy driving a little slippy.

There are 3 nines which are easy, medium and devilish in terms of difficulty. The hardest nine can get a little wet as it is on the slopiest ground and sometimes can be shut after heavy rain.
It is a very attractive and mature course running through pine trees with good use of hilly ground and some really great signature holes. There are some expanses of water which feature well. It is an interesting and well thought out course with a couple of quirky holes to catch you out, with many height changes and doglegs so essentially the course could not be accused of being bland or boring and none of the holes feel samey. Also some nice views out to sea from the high spots and some wildlife to see on the course too.
Considering we have always played in the wet season it has always been in excellent condition, even the greens in shaded spots are good and true.
The pro alters the start hole each day around the three loops and if you stay at the hotel you can play again in the afternoon for free.
There is a little bit of walking between some holes but nothing outrageous and a few of the holes have apartments a little too close for their comfort but neither of these detract from the overall enjoyment of the course.
The clubhouse is as you would expect to find in Spain, with pleasant staff, comfortable surroundings, good value food and drinks, and a nice patio overlooking the first fairway and tee.
I have played hundreds of courses UK, Spain and Portugal and rate this in my top 10. The winter golf deals that the hotel offers are exceptional value.
